Hello all, I have a bit of a problem with my 2006 Mercedes-Benz E350. I have recently purchased it and the navigation DVD was missing however when you press the map key on the front it showed the arrow but not the map. One of my friends has a 2003 E500 and he inserted his DVD on my trunk just to see if the navigation works. And as soon as he inserted the DVD it started loading it on the screen, but he ejected it right away because he didn't want the old maps to store on the system. So now I purchased my own DVD on ebay it's in New condition original from MB not a bootleg, but when I insert it in the DVD reader in the trunk, on the screen it says navigation system activated and it starts loading for a few seconds and then stops and says "No DVD inserted, please insert the navigation DVD (car-trunk). I tried multiple dvd's it does the something with all of them. Can someone please help me. Thanks.

 

If what you purchased is 2011 or 2012 then you will need to to an upgrade from 2006 to maybe 2009 then the newer one. You cannot skip very many years between updates.

 

I think the one that I bought is 2008 . How do I upgrade the in between years?

 

Buy the disc for 2007 load it then 2008 but you should be able to skip to 2011 from 2008.

 

That's crazy, these DVDs aren't cheap at all, I can't buy all of them. Damn this is a stupid system they have ill tell you. Why not have the navi on a hard drive like every other manufacturer, I don't get it.

 

Old dvd's are available on ebay. That's where I got my old ones. As an aside I also have a 2011 Hyundai Genesis sedan 4.6 V8 with tech package and the 2012 update to the hard drive nav system is $200.00 U.S. and dealer has to do it and keep car most of the day. So IMO the dvd system is easier and less costly but does have less information.

 

I rarely use the nav system. It's just too cumbersome. It's easier just to stick a $150 Garmin on the windshield. It's trivial to use and has free maps for life.

 

I agree. My system has me in the middle of the Atlantic ocean...stealer wanted $250 just to tell me what was wrong and said it might well cost $1000 to fix. He recommended and I already had a TomTom so I just use it. But still you would like the damn thing to work.

 

I'm just guessing here, but it sounds like 2003 partial load screwed it up. If you get service from a dealer I would bring the 2008 dvd and tell them what happened and they may fix for free (i.e. if it's a quickie). Seems like everytime I go in there they do something for free. Although, when I look at the bill....

 

i have aa 2006 e55 amg and my navi will let me enter a place to go but wont start the route and when i push the map button it shows me that im in the atlantic ocean any quick fixes i can try my self help me please

 

Try updating the disc or I guess if you're in the middle of the ocean, maybe it's your antenna. I think if you search the forums you may find some threads about how people found the antenna for the navigation was loose.

I suggest you shop around for the dealer who can sell you the updated disc and agree to pay them to install it, which should be either half an hourly rate or possibly free. They will probably need to reset the system , which is not that difficult,so it can accept the new disc.
It pays to have a good relationship with a service advisor when you own these cars.

 

That is true thank you very much for the information but how do you do the reset can you do it yourself after you get the CD I live in orange county so they're very friendly at Fletcher Jones but they're also very packed and I like working on cars myself for the first time I want to eat 55 I will zone Corvettes BMWs or other or cars but I've always dreamed of buying a 2006 e55 which is so amazing

 

Don't know much about this issue, but you may want to do some more research. I bout a 07 w211, the nav never been updated.... it didn't even have the map dvd. I download the newest map on this forum, and also the latest UPDATE disc. Read read read a lot on this forum and online, did the update myself, everything worked out. Make sure you read carefully the step to update... don't want to brick your unit. BTW, Im in OC too

 

BTW, the HU uit on my car had never been updated. I downloaded the latest update on the forum.... didn't go through multiple updates like mentioned on the 1st post
