Has anyone tried Continental PureContact Eco Pluses

I'm thinking about buying a set to replace the worn and noisy Yokohama Avids I have now.

I'm also considering Conti ExtremeContacts DWS and Toyo Proxes 4.

Any insight would be aprreciated

Conti DWS

I have had Conti DWS and I'm happy with them in eastern Pennsylvania.

See my comments toward the bottom of the page in this thread.....

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ice-tires.html

Search this forum using the name of the tires you are interested in and you will get comments pro and con. As you can imagine, it's a topic all of us get to eventually.

My main suggestions are to decide (a) what kind of driver you are, and thus what performance you need (b) where you live, for climate considerations (c) budget and then...

(d) whether your (c) is congruent with your (a)!

Thanks for the response ozusa!

I live in central MD so my weather is probably very similar to yours. The DWSs were at the top of my list till I saw the purecontacts with their 70000 mile warranty. I drive with a slight edge towards aggressiveness, so I like a tire that won't start howling when I want to take a turn at a high rate of speed. Ultimately, I want them to last though.

My concern with a 70,000 mile tire is noise when they start to age and get wear on them. I probably drive 15-20K a year.

The Yokos are just dreadful with the noise plus they seem to be out of round and aren't worth the effort to balance at this point.

I had the Conti ExtremeContacts DWS installed last week on my '06. Today, we had heavy rain and they performed very well. On dry pavement, they have been quiet.

So far, so good.

A lot of Continental fans here... I have heard nothing but bad things about them until now. I have an E550 4-Matic so it's similar to yours, and the Michelin Primacy MXM4 is an expensive solution but one of the best tires out on the market.

I hear you AMG. This is my 4th set of tires in as many years. Car was delivered with a set of Generals..... bad. I then sprung for a set of Michelin Pilot Sports A/S.... they wore out real quick.... but they were decent tires and fairly low on noise. These Yokos were pretty good at first but now with the wear on them they are so noisy its almost maddening.

I've heard some bad about the Contis too but mostly it seems to be overwelmingly positive from all the reviews I've seen. The DWS Extremes seem to have a strong following too.

I've decided to go with the PureContacts. Its basically an Extreme DWS with a longer warranty. I'm hoping a 70,000 mile tread wear warranty plus the Eco plus tech will payoff in the long run...

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I also have the Continental DWS's and after 20k miles on them they remain quiet, smooth and excellent in wet weather including light snow. One of those few times you can spend less and get more. Very happy so far and tread wear looks great too.

Excellent Y2K! Yeah I'm hoping I can say the same thing after 20K miles.

Yeah apparently TireRack is very fond of them as well, having almost no experience with them I couldn't say but I'm glad you made an informed decision hopefully it pays off!
