new windshield -- blue glass?
My glass says PPG SOLEXTRA on it. And I think?? that my side glass has a slight blue tint to it.
For you guys that would know -- do I? I mean it's really really subtle if it is, but I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like. Is it blue enough that I would be certain, or is it this subtle?
The reason I ask -- I'm getting a new windshield put in tomorrow, and I asked that it be the blue glass (thinking it will match). I just want to be sure that it's not going to be something I regret.

I can live with a different windshield (it being blue vs my original being clear) as long as it's not any more blue than my side windows. because they're not really that blue at all. it really takes close attention to notice it.

"Blue-tinted glass."
My 2006 E-Class brochure includes in the "Exterior Features" section:
"Neutral-tinted glass" as standard in all models except E55 AMG.
"Blue-tinted glass" as standard in E55 AMG, and optional in E350 Sedan and Wagon, and E500 Sedan and 4MATIC Wagon.
The EPC for my 2005 E55 AMG states:
A 211 670 02 01 WINDSHIELD BLUE HEAT-ABSORBING GLASS
is valid for:
EQUIPMENT PACKAGE FOR AVANTGARDE VEHICLES [954]
The EPC also lists "HEAT-ABSORBING GLASS BLUE" for the other windows for my 2005 E55 AMG.
I had a non-original windshield recently changed. The Glass Shop obtained the windshield from a Mercedes Benz dealer that I frequent, and listed it on their invoice as:
FW02340BTY - Windshield Blue Tint (w/Molding attached)(Upper Moulding & Rain/light Sensor Bracket/lens)(Solar)(Rain/Light Sensor) DOT#:904
Yes, the Blue Tint is barely noticeable, if at all.
In the lower left (while sitting in the car) corner, my glass has (as attached) the Mercedes-Benz Star Logo and:
PGW
SOLEXTRA

It also has the "A↓S1" mark about 6.5" down from the top where most windshields have their graduated/fading visor tint, but these windshields do not have any such visor tint - which makes it uncomfortable when driving with bright sunshine. The previous owner had tinted all the side & rear windows and had a distinct-line-visor-tint in the front windshield which left with the cracked glass. I may like to install a graduated visor tint on the windshield, but I'm told that there is no such thing, so I'll live with it as is.
Seth, PM me your VIN, and I'll tell you what the EPC says for your vehicle.

Anyone know the details of why this is?

Previous to 2007, the W211s had a shaded tint at the top of the windshield.
