E Class oil pan seal removal

Hey guys,

I have a 2006 CLS which is the same thing as the E class as far as frame and parts go. I have tried the CLS forum but it seems it's a dead forum. I took the car to the mercedes dealership and the diagnosed the oil leak is upper oil pan. Quoted $1200 for labor. Has anyone ever did a lower or upper oil pan seal. I know it's the gasket seal, the same stuff used to to valve cover gaskets which I have done before. Basically it is labor intensive because the front end is in the way of the oil pan. If I can figure out how to get the center of the front end apart I could easily change out the oil pan seals both upper and lower. Does anyone know of a DIY even if it was for something different where the front was removed so I could get to these oil seals? Anything would help, I know I could do this job if I had a little guidance.

The cheapest advice is to spend the 18 bucks and get a 24 hour subscription to startek WIS-----you will get all the CORRECT factory guidance, special tools required, if any, and all the torque info---Do it right and do it once!!

Can we have some more info about your engine? They have different engines installed on CLS in EU and not that many choices in USA.

M113 engine. I know it will be a pain laying on your back, unless you have access to a lift.

I don't think that you want to do this unless you have access to shop w/good equipment - engine comes off, front sub frame needs to be lowered.

And is a Loctite Sealant 5970, this is the way to be applied.

isstay,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post that. I think your absolutely correct in not being able to do this job without a lift, it's just too complicated. I just ordered the 2013 WIS off ebay DVD's for $40 about 5 minutes before your post. Oh well they will come in handy someday. This looks like a big job, the tech also recommended to replace the dipstick o ring which would be easy to do once everything is out of the way. Now I can see $1200 might not be such an unreasonable request from the dealer, don't know if even an indy dealer would want to tackle this.

I will recommend the dealer, plus you get 1 year warranty on parts and labor too. And those DVD's I doubt they will work for you.
