How often do you replace the cabin air filter under "normal" condition? I bought the replacement filter (before I checked the old one) but when I look at the current one in the car, I look almost brand new.

I bought the car (07 E350) used at 30K miles and now it's almost 60K miles. I replaced the engine air filters and they were filthy.

I searched but only found threads on how to replace the filters.

 

It doesn't matter all that much....it is unknown from your posting if you just have the exterior air filter like mine (E320), or charcoal filters (E500). If the air flow is poor, smells, or the fan seems to be laboring, consider change them. (but, once again, on an E320 with a conventional system, the filter is only filtering particulates from external air. It does not filter smells that come from within the cabin, such as tobacco.)

 

It is an external cabin air filter. Sound weird isn't it? It is a cabin air filter which locates in the engine bay (passenger side).

I ordered the one with charcoal. The new one looks 99.9% same as the old one. I guess my old one still good. I just hold on to the new one until I need to replace it.

FWIW, I changed my cabin filter at 30K miles/4 years, and the old one still looked very clean. I think M-B dealerships and the M-B owner manuals go overboard on changing these filters. Depending on your driving conditions of course, I think 50K miles/5 years is a more reasonable interval for most owners.

Wow, that sounds like forever... Generally speaking, most car manufacturers recommend that the cabin air filter be changed at least once a year or every 12,000 to 15,000 miles--whichever comes first. Though I realize that the rules tend to be different with Benz.

 

does a '05 E320 have "Air" filters and if yes how does one change it. Thanks

 

Mine had the charcoal filter under the dash and paper under the hood for the A/C I changed them at 50,000 also.

I am referring to the Engine "AIR" filters. I've replaced the "cabinet filter but how about the "Eng. Air filters (2) I purchased them (Fram brand)? Do you also have a "vidio" as to how to replace these?
