DMV Registration Renewal Fees

CA Renewal fees
This state is nuts. Last year at purchase it was $400+. Just got my renewal on my 03 E320 and its $1039.
Bottom line is first year 2% of the original purchase price. After that it lowers by like 5 or 10% per year.

No way am i buying a new car with the way renewal fees are. I just bought a new house in California and the city took 10K as a Transfer fee. Paying close to 9% in sales tax and then 1200 in fees each year - ive had enough. Plus i'll probably be losing my tech job later this year.

Well someone gotta pay for the millions of Mexican ID cards
I lived in Los Angeles until 1989 and I couldn't believed how bad things are now. You guys gotta get rid of Grey Davis, fast!

2003 E320
O....K...... fresh from the mail - $939.00 for 2004 registration. I had a brand new 2000 W210 and registration for the following year was $650.00. These fees are getting out of hand!

If you guys really believe that the skyrocketing taxes in CA is Davis's fault and that Swartzenegger would do any better then you really do live in a LaLa land.
BTW, your revised registration fees are still cheaper than Georgia's.

Do you mean you paid it or your dealer paid for it at the Nav. Replacement? BTW, which L.A. area dealer, may I know?

They charged me nothing for registration when I picked up my NAV. Old plates and registration stayed with old car. So unless I am gettgin some kind pf prorated bill when I get my new plates I believe I am "fee free" until my '04 renewal

2001 E320
Baby Jocko;
Looks like you haven't been following the politics or our current budget problems over the last couple of years... and unless I do live in la la land, I don't think Davis will be sending out Christmas cards from Sacramento this year.
Just looked up my 2001 E320; paid $990 the first year, $289 the last two years and it goes to $867 for 2004. Assuming, of course, that Davis is still in office...

renewal for my 01 landcruiser $790. last year it was under $400. i thought tax increase require voters approval. oh, davis calls it "vehicle fee" to get around "tax" increase. well, come recall election day, it is anyone but davis for me. hopefully, when my 03 320 is up for renewal the fee is gone; oh, along with davis.

reg-renewal fee in TX
I just got the TX reg-renewal fee paperwork. It is $72. Yes, it is seventy-two-us-dollars. My wife's ML430 was something similar. I do not know what is going on in CA but something seriously wrong. The bad news is I am moving to CA. Do I have to register my cars immediately?
