Comfort/sport shift button part number?

I've scoured the EPC, and I can't seem to find a listing for the shift mode selector button for my 2004 e500 4Matic wagon. This is the comfort/sport button in the shift console.

I'm assuming the button is dead, as I'm stuck in sport mode, yet the tranny runs and shifts fine.

Any ideas?

I do not have access to EPC on the weekends, however most probably the switch is apart of a bigger assy and not sold separately!!

EPC shows the switch banks to either side of the shift console, as well as the airmatic buttons at the rear. the shift console section makes no mention of it anywhere, not even a plug or connector clutch.

AGH.

If button mechanism is working properly, pull the gear shifter cover to check underside electrical connections also part # may be there.

If you need the little round c/s button, which is part of the transmission indicator piece (p, r, n, d) I have an extra one laying around doing nothing. Pm me if its what you need

Well the switches are only in two EPC areas---one group is---group 27 sub 213--part number 70 and you will need the VIN to select the correct part!!

When I can gain access to the car again, I'll pull up the shift indicator cover and see if the wiring is intact. I'm hoping someone just pulled things apart and didn't reconnect the switch wiring.

Yes, it's just the little round c/s button, but I've not yet put a meter on it to determine if it the culprit. Given that the car runs and shifts fine in S mode, it has to be something simple (so I hope)

As some background, I bought this car at auction. It was a repo, but is in very good shape. It had some burnt out tail lights, and the hatch struts were kaput, which I straightened out right away. This is the last thing to fix for now, until it warms up enough to go tearing into the door panel for the lock actuator replacement. It looks like soemone has gone over the car, but wasn't familiar with MBs, and gave up, putting things back together with notable evidence they were apart. Nothing out of place, just subpar reassembly.

The C/S button feels a little off, so we'll see how it measures on the VOM

well, that was quick, and of course, not simple.

Upon pulling the cover, I have a wire connector for the airmatic, and one for the ride height switches at the rear . The C/S switch is part of the gear indicator, with a flat 6 pin socket.

What appears to be missing is the wire and plug for the c/s switch. I can't find an extra wire anywhere inside the shifter mechanism, yet the car obviously has the comfort/sport option, as it has the 5 speed automatic.

The how-to that konigstiger attached in this thread clearly shows the wire, #6 on the right.

I do have two wires that plug into the shifter mechanism on the driver's side front, but I'm assuming these are in the right place already.

A puzzler, for certain

Any ideas?

After a cursory look at the selector wiring diagram, there appears to be some big differences between what you say you have and what is supposed to be there---very starnge was this a Canadian car----- regardless what is the VIN!!

Funny thing, I can't find a match between year and option codes for this car in the EPC. Year of mod 804 seems to be for a 2000 model year.

I was curious if it may be the wrong cover, and the proper part number had some integration of the circuitry, such that the big plug for the airmatic control also linked into the c/s button?

The other possibility I thought of was that maybe there was a jumper wire missing, but that doesn't seem to fit the design philosophy I've experienced.

I think that you have to many tangents, in any event the gear selector sensor should have the following of seven wires, a four wire and a three wire set, with the three wire set consisting of brown, gray blue and a green yellow----those are the only wires for the USA and Canada versions.

Now that I have the VIN I will double check the correct cover!!

Thanks,

I do only have two leads under the cover. That sounds about right for wire counts. I'll have to go look again, now that the car just rolled in.

This would be my selection for a part number for the shift module 211 542 05 26 423+494+804

This would be my choice for the paneling 211 680 23 36 423+494+955

OK,

I think mystery solved.

After a closer look, there are two flat pin sockets on either side at the aft position of the plate, with a 4 wire socket in the center. One of these flat sockets is a double pin row, which is where one of the leads was plugged in. The lead itself is a single row, which I then plugged into the c/s indicator switch. Comfort/sport modes now work!

Of course, I forgot to confirm the Airmatic and ride height adj still work, but I'm certain they do. I guess the two sockets are for options I don't have.

The part # on the back of the switch plate reads: 211 821 32 58.

I took some pics, but I don't think they are necessary at this point.

Many thanks for your help and patience with a Benz virgin n00b
