John that's a good question. I just tried to google it but I can't find the answer. Let me ask you, have you replaced your water pump before?or did you get to 146k miles with original pump? I have an 03 E320 With 105k miles. I bout it a few months ago. I have to go to the dealer to get the maintenance records but I want to know if I can get to the same mileage as you with original pump?

Thanks

I guess We are on the same boat. I bought mine used also. But with 146k miles I would not take any chances. I would replace it before it goes bad, overheated engine is not good.
Good luck

John

There you go, I don't think that's a bad price for an OEM water pump + free shipping
Btw I found that on ebay

E350 Water pump question.
Looks like I am getting ready to replace my thermostat and while I am at it the belt tensioner and idler.
(Something is squeaking when cold, and figure since I have to take them off, why not replace them.)
Should I plan on doing the water pump at the same time?
The car is a on '07 E350 daily driver with about 95K miles. (Original delivery Dec 06)

Thoughts?

Anything else that would be good preventative maintenance without going crazy (or an I already over the line?)

I know guys at both ends of the spectrum.

Those that NEVER replace anything until it has been superglued, ducktaped or JB-Welded at least twice, and those who change their oil with top line synthetic every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.

I'm shooting for the collective wisdom of the group.

It's cheap insurance. Just replace it. Or at least pull it and check the bearings for play. But I would just replace it.

Yep, figure in big round dollars the T-Stat is $100, the belt and pulleys are $100, the tensioner is $100, and the Coolant is $25.

With $325 in, is it worth not doing the pump for another $125?

Of course if someone with experience said; "Don't do it, because X, Y, Z!", that would be a different story.

Seems there are a few different brands and other than people discussing where they come from (Ger, Itl, Spa, Chi) no one has mentioned any quality advantages or issues.

Two brands of Reman so far, but no hard recommendations towards or away. (On some cars some remans are better the new because they fixed some specific shortfall of the OEM design, i.e. bigger bearings, better seals, etc.)

Guessing form the lack of feedback there is little else worth replacing as preventative maintenance while the pump and T-stat are done?

Since I'm topping up, I am going to use MB Blue.
I don't believe in mixing fluids.

If I was flushing everything, I would not hesitate to use any high quality 10 Year Aluminum engine brand.

Some purists will argue with me.

I doubt either of us have anything definitive to base our opinions on.
