Throttle Lag - Anyone else too?

Just like the title says, there is a 1-2.5 second delay between me pressing down on the accelerator and the transmission kicking down into a lower gear and giving me what I want it to do. Furthermore there is a bit of jerking from the transmission sometime where it feels like it doesn’t know which gear to go into.

Does anyone else have that with their car?

That's the nature of the drive by wire system but the transmission you have in your car is Driver Adaptive Logic (DAL) so over the course of several dozen shifts it will learn how you drive and change its dynamics to shift differently. The best way to remedy this laginess is to do a TCU reset, a very simple process that does make a noticeable difference! Search it up on the forum, the process has been posted a few times.

Also, you could potentially look into a SprintBooster if you still have the problem but this doesn't increase performance. Some people say it helps reduce latency in the drive by wire system, others say that all it does change the threshold and linearity of the accelerator pedal and its effects "wear off" as you get used to the different dynamics. I'm in the first camp, but the jury is still out on it.

Read this;

Courtesy of user Cpbball3

(0.) Get into the driver's seat, and make sure all doors, windows, and sunroof is closed.
(1.) Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position. <== Position #2 where all the lights on the dash turn on but NOT to where the engine turns on!
(2.) Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
(3.) Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal. <== I personally keep the gas pedal depressed for 5-10 additional seconds AFTER I turn off the key.
(4.) Wait at least two minutes for TCU to reset. (key in) <== Very important to leave the key in the ignition!

Hope its right, i'm trying it today.

The sneaky ecu reset, although noticeable, will have little effect. What you really want to do is reset the transmission adaptations through the Star Diagnostics System, then you'll REALLY feel something different.

What is this Star Diagnostic System you talk of?

And where can I get it!?

Edit: Damn that's expensive. I guess i'll have to find someone on here that has it and is around my area.

Good advice Lemon didn't know that, and yes it's not typically something you buy it's a computer you have an independent Mercedes shop or mechanic do for you. In the mean time there is zero harm in trying the reset.

I did the soft reset, possibly a placebo but it seems a little bit better.

The owner before me seemed to drive this car like an old man, which is good for me as the engine is in very good condition (Side note: Only 37k miles on an 07'...not bad) ( another side note: maybe he was an old man) and the transmission's current profile just doesn't seem to want to shift down when I need it to.

Usually the DAL transmission will reassess every 30-50 shifts I've heard, no harm in driving the car hard though it won't hurt anything if properly maintained. But I would really consider doing the STAR reset or maybe even getting a TCU flash from a company like Eurocharged

I did the "sneaky TCU reset" a while back. still doin' it every now and then. car seems to pick up and shift better every time after I do it.

After some long extensive back and forth emailing, it appears Eurocharged does not offer or does not want to offer tcu flashes for the facelifted 211s. Our tcu modules are not easily accessible like the earlier models are and it involves lots of work and time to get it out. They have turned down many E63s requesting tcu tunes even at their Houston location because of how complicated it was. So for the time being, our only options are really only Sprintbooster, soft reset, and hard reset. I'm pretty bummed out tbh.

Long story short, i quote, " it is possible but not something that we offer. We have a lot of 63 guys asking to get it done to theirs but it is trouble we do not want to mess with unfortunately. Not at the moment at least."

Okay wow good information, thanks for the update. I know that RonnieRenaldi, back when he had his SL55 and E55, did a TCU flash from Eurocharged so I always assumed it was the same process for the pre-facelift as post-facelift. That's pretty disappointing. Oh well, good find though

I remember from some other posts that the Kleeman Box cleaned up that lag a little bit. Does that sound right? The lag has never bothered me nor am I into engine mods, I just remember reading something to that effect.

I'm not sure what Kleemann currently offers as far as TCU or drive by wires setups, but I imagine they have some type of solution if you are willing to pay for it. However I have a feeling it may fall into the same category as Eurocharged, where for your pre-facelift (2006) W211 they can easily do a TCU tune, but they don't offer one for the facelift model. I may contact Cory and ask.
