3-minute $0 Buzzing Center Speaker Repair
Not sure if this has been discussed before but I figured I'd post this 3 minute DIY.
When I purchased my car I noticed that while listening to news broadcasts there is a buzzing sound coming from the center speaker on the dash.
I did a bit of searching and found a TSB from MB that some felt tape would solve the issue.
So I armed myself with said tape, a Swiss Army knife, and a torx screwdriver and got to work.
You need to insert the knife between the grille and the dash and gently pry it out. Start from the back, the part closest to the windshield and work your way to the front. The grille is held by 4 tabs as you can see on the photo.

Once the grille is off you have full access to the speaker.

I was ready to unscrew it but then I noticed that part of the upper speaker membrane had separated itself from the speaker cone. That is what caused the buzzing sound! The felt tape was useless.

I was about to take off the speaker and glue the membrane back on but then I thought of something else... I separated the membrane completely and then tucked it under the cone.

Problem solved. No more buzzing during news broadcasts! Car sounds as good as new (or almost).

I have seen this advice before, but I really like the pictures! Very helpful. Now all we need to do is figure out how to get the rear decklid above the subwoofer to stop rattling at certain frequencies.

Are those vents or returns for the hvac system below the speaker? Anyone tried just replacing that little speaker with something aftermarket?
