New member with New wheels and Star Lowering/Links

Hey guys just joined and traded a guy my 2004 e60 545i with 118k for this 03 e500. I have another car so this is my daily. Prior owner even paid for most of the wheels since the car only came with winters. It was dealer maintained with 56k miles. So the next day I picked up a c3 clone with DAS/Xentry loaded on an external drive and modded away. Here is the result.

She's flush! Welcome to the forums first of all, nice to have some new members that are already very knowledgeable in Mercedes mods it seems. Those wheels look really nice, almost reminiscent of the newer ML63 wheels, do you know what kind they are? Specs?

Thanks guys they are reps. Nitrous Garage which is a forum sponsor sells them.

I did quite a bit of research on the w211 before trading. I actually wanted to get one of these cars before my e60. The specs are 20*8.5 front and 20*10 rear. Zero rubbing with a 40 rear offset and 35 front offset. It was time to mix things up a bit. The low mileage is a huge plus for me.

Since I am a bit computer savy it was not to hard to install and work with Xentry especially since I was familiar with BMW coding. My e60 had quite a few retrofits including LCI head lights, tail lights, CIC nav etc...

How much do DAS Xentry clones run these days, I've heard they can be had for around $500? And all you really need is a separate HDD from which to install/boot the software?

I paid $304 with everything including the software, key gens for activation, c3 clone, and associated cables. I run a Virtual machine on my windows 7 laptop and luckily had a USB to serial adapter laying around that worked. Little slow on the virtual machine but every function worked flawlessly. Had to convert the program folders from read only to keep activation otherwise I had to put in a new key every time I booted. Ended up transferring the external drive contents to the laptop on a separate partition to help speed it up a bit.

I should add the external drive came preloaded with the xp virtual machine with all of the Xentry/Das software. Also came with vm ware player and a PowerPoint of instructions. I will post the link for the one I bought. Can't guarantee mods will take it down or not.

Hey guys- pardon my ignorance about this program/software: What exactly does it do and what are the pros and cons of using it on our W211? @svre46, I had a chance to get an '06 545 w/80s K miles, but passed on it for the E500 wagon. wanted a some what sleeper ride-lol...

Thanks and Happy Memorial Day to all......

DAS Xentry is basically the diagnostics tool that factory uses on all Mercedes. It's kind of like a super advanced ODB II reader but has a lot more functions. But I assume in this case he is talking about manipulating the factory air suspension through DAS Xentry to trick the car into thinking it's actually sitting higher than it really is, therefore causing the car's system to adjust itself by lowering the vehicle. It's really just lowering the car through the air suspension. Some people prefer to go lower and that's when lowering links come into play.

We are currently running the same exact specs with regards to wheels. Unfortunately, im just lowered with H&R so i cant go lower. Very nice clean looking car you got there! Keep modding mate!

I was talking to my friend Adam at MB Clinic who is pretty familiar with DAS Xentry and he was saying that it's a lot easier said than done, apparently you have to use several position sensors and it can take hours to get right. I used to think this was easy to do but I now know why most shops really don't want or like to do it. I think links are the best way to go honestly if you can get ones that are the right design.

True but those who know what they're doing shouldn't really have a problem. When I had a shop do washer + Star lowering, I was in and out of there in probably under 45 minutes. Adjustable links are probably the easiest way to go though.

But GT854T5, in regards to DAS Xentry as a whole, it's really useful and a hell of a tool when it comes to Mercedes. Plus it's also great to save $175 on a diagnostic fee every time something goes wrong.

Thanks @Lemon & AMGAffa; I will ask my indie tech if that is what he uses; he did mention that the Scan tool he uses can instruct the car to perform functions. BTW, I'm not really interested in lowering the car; would like it for trouble shooting & tweaking any funtions, etc.
