BRAKE LIGHT WARNING

Last few days, when I start the car, 2004 e320, the instrument cluster reads BRAKE but it is not the usual red brake warning advising to visit the workshop. Does anyone know what this means

If it just says BRAKE in white and underneath it says, "Visit Workshop," then it can be that your SBC pump has hit it's cycle limit.

Possibilities parking brake set, brake fluid level, or SBC.

Hi guys, I hooked it to the STAR, ran quick test and got a failure on SBC pump, took it further and got the dreaded code C249F, service threshold has reached replace the pump. My question is: do you see a problem with resetting the pump for another 75000 miles using a SBC recovery by OBD tool available on Ebay for $50

That may be a bit optimistic to try to get an additional 75,000 miles from the unit. I think mine went out at around 100,000 miles (red error message - complete failure) and I just took some preventative maintenance when I got the error again at 183,000 miles (white BRAKE message). I didn't want to experience what I went through the first time around so I decided to jump on it early.

I have not gotten the red error message yet only the white brake message at 105k miles. did you ever get rid of the annoying messages on the IC? what kind of preventative maintenance? did you reset the pump? flushed the brake fluid? etc?

When I got the red error message, my SBC pump had failed completely so stopping power was next to nothing. I had to immediately drive home and used the parking break to stop the vehicle. This occurred at roughly 100,000 miles. I ended up dropping it off at the shop and replaced the SBC pump at that time. Just recently (at 183,000 miles) I got he white error message and had it scanned. It showed that the SBC unit had hit it's limit so I went ahead and just replaced it again. I didn't want to take the chance because once the red message comes on, it's scary. The preventative action I took was just replacing it right away so I avoid the red light all together. I was offered the option to reset the computer, but that doesn't do anything but clear the error.

Thanks, it appears that I am in the same predicament. I am with you on replacing the bad part. I do not need to fool myself into believing that everything is fine when in fact it is dangerous. Can you PM me the location of the shop where you dropped off the car. I live in the same neck of the woods. I am also seriously considering to do the job myself, retired with plenty of idle time, if I can get the pump. I checked a few places online but had no luck.
Have a great day, you have been most helpful
