Humming noise when off/on throttle

I can clearly hear the difference between just barely having my foot on gas (no noise) & when I take foot off a humming sound starts. Most noticeable about 50 to 70mph. It sounds like its coming from trans tunnel. Any thoughts?

Is it just a humming noise or do you feel vibration? Possible collapsed trans mount?

The decel noise is quite loud and maybe accompanied by just a little bit of vibration. Mostly noise

Bump - Anyone experience this at all?

Thoughts are trans, center bearing or maybe flex disc?

Further listening suggests:

Noise when accelerating (humming)
Noise when decelerating (louder humming)
No Noise when "just" on the gas a bit
No Noise in neutral while coasting

Nobody is willing to tear into the differential but they all believe it is definitely gear noise ie. Crown/pinion gear. I am trying to source a used e55 complete pumpkin to be installed.

It is not the csb unfortunately

I have an '03 E500 and I get that same humming (higher pitched almost like a whistle) sound when I am between 70-75 mph. I slowly let off the gas and once I let off a few degrees, the humming goes away.

I was also curious as to what would be causing the sound.

Is this a humming or howling noise? There is a difference thats why i am asking. If its howling, probably your rear diff, humming i would like to think is a wheel bearing. However if you have those bull***** AS3's on your car they could as well be producing some noise....

Typically a wheel bearing will get worse with speed & will obviously become louder when loaded up more ie. shifting weight from one side of the car to the other. Don't discount what crmiv said as well, I am amazed at how noisy some tires can be. With that said, I find Michelin's to be one of the quietest brands.

If you cruise at 75mph & throw car into neutral does the noise go away? If noise, goes away then try increasing RPM to that 2,000-2,500 & see if noise comes back. Post up results

The new updated as3's are suppose to be legit. The old style ones are garbage imo but im picky when it comes to tires.
