SBC out of warranty
So I'm looking at a E320 2003 model to buy and it has the big red go to dealer brake distance increased. Anyways he showed me the records of the repair being done but our dealership here being the scam it is decided to only REPROGRAM the unit the first time it failed instead of replacing the unit. It says in the recall to replace the part number that's in the car with the new part number. Look under the hood and boom old part is still in there and the dealer insists not to fix their wrong doing of not following the standard procedure for the warranty. What should I do. they guy said he would come down on the price if I just fix the SBC myself.

Actually, the SDS will tell you what to do. AKA threshold met, check operating time, updates are typically first then replacement. So I wouldn't be so sure about you getting scammed. Certain things have to be met before you can just replace parts under warranty.

I think I'm being misunderstood by fix it myself it means take it to the dealer. I was going to plan to buy it. I have the cash to fix the SBC and buy the car if I get the car for a cheap price.
BUT THE DEALER WILL DO THE WORK NOT ME.
also Tuesday I'm taking it to my local MB Indy with a star who is going to check everything on the car. If my Indy says it's good then im gonna get it I think if they say it's a good car. Then fix the SBC

How much did the dealer quote you to fix it? You should search the old threads, 2003 was the first year so there were lots of problems like leaking radiators trashing the transmission, but at this stage those items might have been fixed.

It has tons of receipts so I'm assuming a lot of the stuff has been done I didn't even get through all of them yesterday! Most of them seemed to be just standard A and B services though. Always done at the local dealer. need to get a quote from dealer for SBC Indy seems to think Benz won't let them use their star to program it to the car. I like the 2003 because it has the 5speed I really don't want another 7speed if I can help it. the one on the C300 is wonderful but the DIY change of the fluid was the worst experience and I'm all about DIY

My Indy Has a star but they said they would probably need special codes from MB to get it to work.

I talked to another Indy and he said he could replace it. So I'm going to question my Indy on it when the car goes for inspection

It sounds to me like your rushing a purchase. My suggestion is to slow down and be patient. If I can find a 4matic in Phoenix where there is practically no reason to own AWD then I'm sure you can as well.

we don't have many for sale around here. our dealership barely has any used ones. I never plan to take it on the snow that's what the Volvo is for.

You can also just ask an MB shop how much labor it is to put it in. I think someone else here mentioned that they bought the MB part online and the MB dealer said they would put it in as long as it was an MB part.

99% of sbc units going in these 211/219/230's are all reman units. A brand new unit is probably pushing 1500 dollars, the same price as a new comand unit. Plutoe's right, no special codes, just "activate" sbc unit after hydraulic unit replacement. 4matics hard to find? Maybe because of my location in the d/c area i think they are a dime a dozen, but to me 2wd's are more sought after imo. Me personally if i wanted a 4x4, my butt would be going straight to a American car dealership and getting one, a real truck that is. G wagons work too

Exactly 4x4 is meant for my rover RWD is meant for my BENZ okay I'll order a reman if the car passes inspection and I'll talk to my Indy. they said usually the labor is just the price of a brake bleed which is $80 so that would save me $1000

so maybe I buy the block and take it to the dealer every Indy I have called has really been sketchy and doesn't seem to know anything about SBC. Do you guys know if the dealer will do the work if I bring the part?

Depends how long you want to keep the car. You don't know how long the used part will last and you will probably need an indy to install it. Try calling some MB dealerships and see if they will install a used ebay part for you.

So this just kinda hit me the guy had some Firestone place do the front and rear brakes for $80 I saw the receipt now I don't trust those people to know how to do a sbs pad change. The brake pedal feels fine and everything feels perfectly normal I hear the pump and feel it activate in my foot by pushing the brake peddle when the car stops. Now if they didn't de active the SBC system which I doubt they did could that throw the code and my block be fine?
