2003 e320 oil dipstick length

I have tried as many mercedes forums as I can with this question with not one answer. I have a 2003 Mercedes Benz e320 Sedan and it has no engine oil stick. I ordered a stick and placed it in the tube with engine cold to measure and the oil was right at the bottom of the stick. Obviously the stick is too short as the digital readout shows 8.5 quarts cold which is correct. My stick is 21.5 inches to the bottom from where it seats all the way in. What is the correct length for those of you who have the e320. I prefer to be able to also measure my oil manually. For some reason even searching the internet shows no length of the engine oil stick for the e320. There are also transmission oil sticks you can purchase. But I only care about the engine oil.

For my 06 cdi, my dipstick is approximately 34 inches long. I have a piece of black tape marked where it bottoms out at and that is at 29 inches.

You will notice a comment where someone says the stick was too short also. This may be where I ordered it. That is why the length is important to me since I had that problem. Mine is only 21 .5 inches from where it seats.

MB changed the oil SUCKING tubes length between the years and that is probably where the difference is originating.
Other idea is to use transmission dipstick (you do have it, don't you?) and mark the oil level on it as well.

Thanks, I really do not know if I have a transmission stick. I don't think so.

You will need transmission dipstick sooner or later and from original $50 the prices drop to $10, so why not get one now and have it for both uses?

My daughter bought a 2003 e320. Can I leave the oil dipstick in the hole of the car after I change the oil? I figured why take it out. My 2002 e55 has a dipstick in the engine at all times. There shouldn't be oil flying out from the hole if I leave the dipstick intact in the engine.....right? It fit snuggly.

How do I know when the oil is at the correct level? I only have the dash display and I just don't trust it.

I changed oil today and to see if it is correct, I have to wait the time period. Sheesh, how I wish I had a dipstick!
