I have an issue on the driver's door of the car. I took off the door trim for the driver's door, the door lock used to obviously go up and down, now it's stuck, won't move up or down and when locking with the remote it won't lock. Anybody got ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

You took your door lining/panel off? If so, does anything else on the door work? windows, seat adjustment ect?

It still doesn't lock and neither does the remote, it locks all the other door except this one. The other stuff like mirrors and seat and window controls work. The lock stalk is literally locked and doesn't go up or down.

I have a working door lock from another car. Should we just use that and replace the thing and be done with it? Will the barrel need to be replaced for the little mechanical key to work and how hard is it?

Also, will the replacement lock even work with the other car?

No need to change barrel. Search 'bouncing door lock' for more info and instructions to change lock mechanism, usually small spring broken inside lock mechanism and pin will go rapidly up and down while locking. Perhaps something jammed inside mechanism now. If part number of replacement lock match, it is plug and play.

It was none of these.

The problem as, the door trim was off.

Yes, it's crazy but the door trim or specifically, that little plastic piece near where the door clips into the hinge has to be on for the lock to work.

So anyone who takes off their door trim, your lock WILL NOT WORK, it will unlock but not lock but do not replace the actuator.

The reason is there is a button on the car which detects when the door is closed and that button will not be pushed sufficiently if that plastic piece on the door trim isn't there.

THANK GOD I didn't drill out and replace the actuator. I hope someone else who has a similar problem sees this and doesn't waste ALOT of time and money.

This isn't about bouncing locks by the way. That is a different problem all together.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I just wanted to thank E500SLR for the tip—I just now had this issue after getting my C300 back from the garage (after 6 weeks!) and I was honestly afraid I’d have to go back. That was exactly what fixed it for me—the rubber molding was slightly in the wrong position, which was stopping the door from locking.
