What do you think of the new CL-S? Here are the official photos. Looks like it is taking a lot of styling cues from the Lexus ES330 and to some degree, the BMW 5 series (the headlights, although the ES headlights are also shaped the same).

I like it. I could go for a little less wood on the dash face. I like the back end styling. Exhaust looks good too. Not sure about the headlight shape, though. I assume the same drivetrain as our E's?
Where does this fall in the model lineup? Between the E and S?

bmcd, i think it will be more expensive than the E, i heard around 60,000 i believe on this board before.
i believe it will have the same engines as the E, as in the 500 engine. it should be pretty fast, but it does look pretty heavy.

It looks very Japanese in styling, I've also heard Peugot 607ish. No Benz cues to me. Bottom line, IMO, it is gorgous inside and out. That is a beautiful car.

Rusnakmb and bmms8 - Thanks for the input. Since my car stickered around $65K, having the CLS come in around $65-70 may not be too bad. It would be nice to get another 50 HP or so to differentiate it from the E500. Looks like your back seat passengers will need to duck when getting in! That slope in the roof looks great! I'll let my dealer know to give me a call when the pricing is available.

I think that the CLS is a totally new class that would prbably fit between the E and the S class, where prices of the various models will be a bit less than the S class.

Hi,
If you like the CLS, I am sure you will fall in love with the new S Class. longer and same size as old style. The look became more aggressive. It will be avaliable in 2005.

How big is this car going to be? I have seen different reports. Some magazines have said the car is nearly as big as an S Class, while others state it is a modified E Class. The pictures make the car look much more spacious than an E Class.

I can't say that I am that impressed with the pictures. It is sleek but there seems to be too much sheet metal above the rear wheel. I also have a problem with the rear view. What is happening with the design of the rear of the BMW and now the CLS?

High beltlines, thick rear/trunk, front and rear bumpers integrated into the body, and lack of door mouldings are some of the styling cues of the new generation of cars.

these designers are making the cars look pear shaped, too big in the rear. It may work on Jennifer Lopez, but not on these cars.

Why not get rid of the CLK and make a coupe/conv't based on the E Class? The W124 was available in coupe/sedan/wagon/conv't. Why not do it again?

I actually really like the CLS now the initial pics in red/berry where terrible made me feel like puking but the new shots of a 'nice' color actually do it justice.
That red reminded me of that Bile yellow M3 owners have to love with
