Intake fix on w211 way not be the best idea!!!

I spoke to a long time friend whom works for Mercedes and I asked him about this intake problem that we have, the aluminum fix. He told that they did that for a while until carbon built back up in the intake and before, the plastic would break but with the metal fix, the next weakest link would break and cause major damage to engine. Any ideas?

Hm, I'm not sure that I'm aware of the problem you're talking about. Intakes can get dirty, and usually they can be cleaned. I don't know why you'd need to "fix" them

These 211's have an intake problem. There is a plastic connector which opens and closes intake flaps which creates more velocity in the intake. Well the plastic bracket breaks and causes the flaps to stop working and computer creates codes and makes the car run bad. There is a metal fix out there.

IMO worst case scenario is that flaps jam, M55 (actuating motor) burns and fry ECU. Usually it blows fuse first, but if owner just replaces the ECU fuse and won't repair the motor fault, sometimes ECU may damage. However this may happen with plastic parts too, seen many...

I mean all that could really happen is fuel economy goes down and a power loss. Never in the intakes i've replaced on mercedes have i seen one actually cause engine damage but anything is possible. When the flaps do break however sometimes it ruins/destroys the valve and makes it stick in the actuated position. At that point entire intake needs to be replaced, no quick fix for that. I'm not to keen on the tumble flap repair myself as I have done so and still check engine light re-occurs after repairs for same code.

What is odd is that I had 2 codes, the magnetic cam sensor and the intake flap stuck closed. I replaced the sensor and then moved the passenger side flap open again and now after one week of driving no more check end light.

I have the same two codes (or similar ones).
I only get a check engine in cold weather. Usually just the first day or so when the temp changes from warm to cold.

Wondering if cheap code readers are getting confused.

I think you can feel if the flap lever is actually broken. I am going to try and if not just do the cam sensor and see what happens.

I did not believe my cheap code reader and paid the dealership $150 to tell me the same thing.

Do a google search on Mercedes W211 or E350 intake repair. There's some detailed youtube videos that will show you exactly what you're dealing with
