Trunk Weatherstrip Replacement

I'm replacing my trunk weatherstrip as water was coming in from "under" the seal.

2 questions:

1) I assume I remove the plastic cover, which is held in place with a few rivets and a couple of torx screws. Then pull of the rubber seal and clean all surfaces. See pic.

2) For installation, what "glue seal" do I use? I would ask at Autozone, but honestly would prefer to get advice here? Also, I assume I can re-use the rivets for the plastic cover?

Thanks

1) Yes.
2) No glue seal. It just presses on. Reuse the plastic rivets.

Bumping an old thread, as I tend to do...

Does anyone know the part number of the rubber seal between that plastic trim and the body / taillights? Mine has disintegrated and is completely gone. I haven't noticed any leaks due to this but I don't want to leave it like that. Thanks!

Cover (left 2116930133, right 2116930233) incorporates seal till it meets tail lamp. If this is the area you’re concerned about MBUSA does not offer this part separately need to purchase body panel 2116400871 or you can search 2116930433 and/or 211693033 i.e.: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUI...-/202402761343 however, confirm with seller that part is correct.

Thanks! That's the exact part I need. I pulled out the remaining rubber from it thinking I could get it seperately, guess I'll have to buy the whole panel on both sides now.

Yes, actually the rubber and the plastic appears to be all one piece on the new parts vs the old ones where the rubber gasket could be pulled out. You’ll see when you order them.

ECS Tuning has OEM parts too, just need to search by part number.

Hey, do you know where can I get those rivets and torx to replace these water strips?

I reused the same torx screws, and for the rivets I tried getting them at the dealership but they weren't able to find the correct ones for me so I replaced them with rivnuts and used screws to hold the new plastic trim piece on. Before inserting the rivnuts, which I got from a kit I bought at Harbor Freight that included the tool, I coated the holes in touchup paint and then painted the inside of the threads as well before I screwed in the screws to seal everything up. So far there has been no water intrusion or corrosion. I'll take pics for you tomorrow.

Carefully pry the center up, one-time use best to replace part # is 0009916940.

Konigstiger is correct, I carefully pried them out but even being careful they are definitely one time use. My local dealership was unable to locate the part number at the time so I ended up replacing them with rivnuts and stainless steel screws which has worked well, but if I had been able to find the correct part I would have just replaced the rivets.

I'm glad I found this thread/post. I had the dash go out on my 07' W203 after washing it, the dash came back but I started looking for a leak over the CAM BUS in the trunk. Low and behold there's water dripping from the water track right above the CAM BUS. Now with the part number I can replace the rivets and hopefully this will stop the leak.-NP
