2004 E55
E55

Having a bodykit is no replacement for an amazing engine. And the AMG styling is already very nice.

I have the SAME issue. Testdrove E500 on last Sat. (of course no test drive is allowed on E55), and debating whether to spend $20K more to get E55 or do the Brabus mods myself. Just got the W211 Brabus cataloge: $4615 Full Body Kit + $1980 SideSkirt + wheels, I am expecting $10K + $10K for Kleemann Kompressor). But MB salesperson told me that even though in this way I get 500+hp vs. E55's 469hp, but the transmission cannot handle such a monster power (30+ difference, I disagree). But anyway I think I don't wanna wait for the E55 (2-3 months) and custom the car the way I like (well I will sell it 2 years later anyway) I just e-mailed you so we can share more.

Stopped by the dealer yesterday and took a used '04 E55 out for a drive. Amazing car. Don't bother with the E500 if you can swing the E55. I'd buy it for the exhaust note alone!

The E55 does not come with the 7-G, and he is correct, you will probably tear the sh*t out of it with that much torque. Currently, there is no version of 7G strong enough for that kind of power. There should be in the next year or so. No AMG car that I'm aware of has 7G, just 5 speed. Be careful before you buy!!

In the end, its a matter of what you want. If you want something even more unique than the E55, and dont mind losing possible warranty or resale, then modded E500 is for you. I'd stick with AMG, as it is really a good deal for what you get- full active susp, body kit, exhaust, brakes, seats, headliner, etc (other things besides power)

Why not a RENNTech s/c for the W211 E500? Its proven to be faster than a W211 E55, and there's quite a few of them running around (one appeared at the LA Int'l Auto Show) as a testimonial proof that these things accurately deliver (hp and torque gains) what they advertise.

And most of all, it can be put together in under 30 days for about $15k, plus you have a network of high-volume RENNTech dealers (like Meridian Automotive in the LA area) in many states to honor warranty issues regardless where you bought the product from.

How loud is the Brabus exhaust? I'm thinking of adding that, but I don't want a really loud exahust. Some extra rumble would be nice, but I don't want a droning sound that drowns out everything in the car cabin.

Renntech is GOOD, but I think it cost about $4K more???

7G, hm... also need to really think about it.

Ah... why go through all of these, what about a 911?:o

How about an E55 plus a kleeman S/C....or a brabus S/C....

But in my opinion. just my $0.02 i would rather get an E500 and spend $20,000 modding it. Thats just my preference.
