car cranks, won't start p0335

As title says my 2006 e350 would crank but would not start... It has p0335 code for Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Malfunction and it also has a p0306 misfire on cylinder 6, and it shakes very badly. I recently replaced the ignition coil on cylinder 6 because it was faulty, not sure if they are related. Would changing the CPS solve the issue? And do the two codes p0335 and p0305 relate two each other at all. Also, could it be the fuel pump? the previous owner had no start problems couple years back and it turned out to be the fuel pump which he replaced.

Yes the cps needs to be replaced. Have you checked the spark plug wires and coils?

No, but spark plugs were replaced just a couple weeks ago.. so was ignition coil #6. not sure why it's throwing misfire code again.

Replace the cps. That controls the firing.

OK so I attempted to replace it today and looking around the forum I found that I needed an E8 torx for the bolt holding down the sensor, but that doesn't look like an E8? Also I noticed that when I crank the car the rpm meter stays at 0. Is this normal?

It takes a lot of special tools to work on Mercedes cars. I have been collecting those tools for years. You may want to purchase a set of star sockets and set of torx drivers. Harbor Freight tools have a good selection. As to the rpm question perhaps someone else will know the answer. I have never checked the rpms when the cps was bad.

I replaced the CPS today, but the problem persists. Car cranks, but refuses to start Checked codes, and the p0335 no longer shows but the misfire codes (p0300, 0302, 0304, 0305, 0306) are still there. The only way I found the car to start is if I pump the gas pedal as I crank the car... Could this be a fuel pump issue? Previous owner had that replaced a few years back with a no start issue.

Did you find a solution to your issue? I am right on the cusp of replacing my CPS for a no start issue as well, and would like to avoid throwing good money after bad.

What bit did you use to get that screw out? on my previous MBs (MY2002 W210, MY2003 W211) I had to use an E8, but as you noted, it looks like this uses a male socket, perhaps a T20?

Nope. For me it wasn't just a no start issue but also misfires on 4 cylinders as well. Replacing CPS didn't do any good. I believe I used a T30 for the screw. Got rid of the car in the end as I didn't want to spend any more money on it.

This was a case that a full Mercedes STAR diagnostic may have shown the exact problem and saved time and money.
