Tail lights - No Power

On my 2006 CDI, the Tail Lights (i.e. Rear Park Lights) are not working, voltmeter shows no power going to them. All other lights including brake, back up, 3rd brake, front side markers work. Is there a fuse location for tail lights? I've pulled all the fuses in the rear and drivers side SAM and none are blown. Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you check this thread? It's a very common problem.

I am (all too) familiar with this but I don't think the tail light wires don't go through the trunk arm like the 3rd brake light, trunk opener etc. so they aren't subject to breaking like those wires. Also, Left and Right tail lights are wired inseparate looms, but niether side is getting power. Keep the ideas coming though, because I am stumped!

Easiest thing to do is put it on a diagnostics system.

Light switch is wired to the front SAM which communicates over the CANBUS to the rear SAM which activates the lights. It's not a ground problem because all the lights in the tail lamp assemblies use a common ground.

Right side should use black-green wire connected to pin 3 of connector 14 on the rear SAM.
Left side should use grey-black wire connected to pin 4 of connector 14 on the rear SAM.

The individual lines are not fused. So...either both lines are broken, are shorted, the rear SAM has a failure of some sort, the front SAM has a failure of some sort, or the rotary light switch has a failure of some sort. Since all the other lights in the assemblies are functioning, I would rule out a CANBUS problem.

Be advised I *think* the above is correct because one really needs to troubleshoot by VIN due to differences between years and models (such as production changeovers of wiring harnesses mid-year). Also, not all of us know what a CDI is...so, the more info you provide, the better. I am guessing yours is an E320 CDI, diesel engine, 211.026 or 211.206.

Once again, a diagnostic test may be the quickest solution. Literally takes 5 minutes after hooking up. Best of luck and please post the solution.

Thanks for the great explanation! I will find a shop that has the diagnostics capability and report back.

I have a similar problem. The running lights don't work, but the brake lights do. Turn signals work but only one of the two bulbs. Then when I press the brake light, passenger turn signal stops working. I tried to change the plate with all the bulbs on it but it didn't change anything. No fault code on dash either. I have a 2005 E56.

Since you do not post your location here are MBUSA driver left side attachments. Tail light is controlled internally by rear SAM (fuse panel in trunk). Seems as though you checked all @ tail light now turn your attention to associated connector/pins @ SAM underside if fine SAM may need replacement.
