Dead Pedal

Anybody have a solution for a "dead pedal"? Ideally I would like to find a rubber/vinyl solution that matches or compliments the Stone interior color, rather than a metal one. The carpet underfoot in the left foot rest area is almost black from rain & snow & it impossible to keep clean.

Hello Barry

I second that? I have no clue what went through the W211 designer's mind (as a matter of fact, interior designers of the current MB models) when they included carpet for the dead pedal.

Is there a way we can petition to MBUSA or MB to start issuing out rubber padding (or even black hard plastic) as retrofit for all NEW and existing W211s?

Any ideas?

im thinking about buying an aftermarket floor mat to match my ash interior, bring it to my local shoemaker and have him cut it to my specs - would need to figure how to best attach it...but at least i have somewhat of a plan

Lightbulb Custom made mats are required for the stone interior

I had a carpet installer custom made some darker color mats for my stone 2003 SL.

I picked a darker beige/taupe color matching the upper dash of the stone interior and it looked totally stock.

All good ideas. I have been thinking of cutting vinyl stair tread in the shape of a dead pedal but then it would have raw edges. Also I don't want to glue it to the carpet. I thought maybe someone else had some insight...at least I know my concerns are shared by others.

Another downside to not having a plastic/vinyl dead pedal is that after a while all the wetness/snow/salt will make the edge of the carpet where it goes down deeper into the footwell rot and then fray... Not neat. The ideal situation is a piece of vinyl that wraps around this corner a little. Back to the drawing board.

Funny, I was thinking about the same thing on my way home from work tonight. I do use clear mats to protect the stone ones and just keep my foot off the dead pedal. My 2001 CLK dead pedal was plastic covered and my 04 is just carpet, more cost cutting by the bean counters at MB Don't they understand that certain useful little things are too important to cut out.

We have stone interior too and now it's badly in need of some steam cleaning. Have the custom plastic clear mats too, but sometimes I just forget and put my foot on the dead pedal area so it's kinda dark there too. I can't believe a $50,000 car didn't come with at least a plastic dead pedal or even offer it as an option.

Aftermarket Guys??? Are you Listening? How about a velcro mounted dead pedal to match the interior? Possibly the same color as the dash pad?

I think MBUSA should provide

1) a free retro for all existing W211 owners

or

2) accessory deadpedal cover

MBUSA .... ARE YOU LISTENING ?????

If you purchase the MB rubber mats, there is a flap that covers the dead pedal area.

These mats are a great fit. They do not look as good as carpet, but they are the best fitting and best looking all season rubber mats Ive ever seen

More than likely you have the originals, go to page 2 and you'll be able to view the newer ones: https://mbworld.org/forums/sh...;threadid=57225

colored all season mats

I have the same mats Silvergt02 has, in black, and they also come in ash and stone to match interiors. They give a nice rubber cover for the dead pedal, keeping it clean all year round. I kind of prefer the rubber mats anyway, as I don't have to be so paranoid as to what I might have stepped in before getting in and soiling the carpet.

Hi there

Based upon the pictures provided by another poster on this new rubber mats, I thought the rubber flap that covers the dead pedal is kinda short. If so, does it actually protect the dead pedal completely or there is still areas of exposures.

I have the older version of the rubber mats and I decided not to change it because I thought the new version has too short of a flap for the dead pedal.

Am I on track with my assessment ???

Do you have a part number for the mats? And What color did you get? I would be interested in getting the rubber mats in stone...ast least for winter use.

You can start with 6-6-68-8607 (black) then simply ask for additional available colors.

Gerarhead,

Silvergt02 and everyone else answered the questions, but I will add this one opinion; Although the dead pedal is covered well with the new all season mat, I feel the older style all season mat from mb appears to do a better job in handling liquids (melting snow). The new ones don't have a raised lip like the old ones. Otherwise, the new ones fit really well and snap in place in the existing mounting holes.

Thanks 10000_lakes

I guess I will look into getting another set of rubber mats since I have the old ones already.

1) Stone gets dirty so easily, it would require me to shampoo the carpets every single day. That's ridiculous.

2) My cheap Civic came with a dead pedal standard. If a cheap Honda can come with one standard, a $50,000 better damn well have come with one. Since it doesn't, I have every right to ***** and tell everyone how cheap Mercedes has become. It prolly only costs the manufacturer like 50 cents to put in. It's inexcusable for them not to have one, especially when they offer such a light colored carpet.

They can please everyone easily. Spend the few cents and put in a dead pedal. Join the rest of the automotive world.
