People have retrofitted COMAND, heated seats front/rear, folding mirrors, autodimming mirrors, active cornering lights, distronic, etc. So there's no reason that this could not be retrofitted. It's significant work, but can be done.
There is a class of items that is extremely cost prohibitive to retrofit, and that includes those that are directly tied to the VIN of the car: locking/security items, and TeleAid.

The dealers will tell you this is not an option that can be added. To my knowledge the parts departments do not have a kit that would allow addition of this option. Obviously anything is possible if you want to go to a specialist outside of the dealership and hand over a blank check.

Hand over your car to Steve for a day, and he can do wonders to it.

YES YOU CAN 100% install the trunk closer. You will need the following items:
Trunk Motor
Small harness to rear SAM unit
Front Left Switch assy replaced with new one with trunk closer button
Trunk Latch replaced also with electronic one.
harness from Latch to rear SAM unit.
You can also retrofit Distronic for around 4 grand. The trunk closer should be around 1000 dollars.

I don't know the prices for the S class but the estimate was for the w209 CLK which uses many of the same parts as the E class. The E class Wagon closer is different though. IT's hydralauic since it weighs more. THe sedan is a electric high torque motor connected to rear SAM. Star Diag may have to be used as well to activate it.

I dont know exactly how on the S it works, all I know is that there is a like cord thing on the right side of the trunk lid that connects to somewhere on the car. I think there is a motor in the trunk lid that pulls it down, cause you can hear the motor and thats where it sounds like its coming from.

...that cord is just wiring for whatever there is to be wired in the trunklid (license plate lights for example)...
The trunklid closer is to be found in the trunk and operates one of the hinges...
Personally I don't think that this option can be added (to a W211) for anyprice close to 1000USD...the motor needed for the trunkclosing system itself already costs a minor 1000USD...

Can we move this to the S-class forum instead if we're not talking about W211 trunk closers anymore?

i looked into retrofitting the trunk closer and yes it is possible. There is a retrofit document in WIS that I have for the 220. The 220 S class is a bit harder. It is a hydraulic system. CLK has a electric motor. E Class Sedan is electric and E class wagon is hydraulic. It all depends on the weight of the trunk door. But yes it is doable 100% CLK motor is 450 dollars and electronic lock latch mech is 250 dollars. Switch is 60 dollars and wire harness another 80 bucks. S class is probably much more money.
