I am considering a 2008 W211. It has the COMAND head unit and the seller states that the MB bluetooth dongle is also included. Being that the device is now 10 years old should I expect it to be compatible with my Samsung Galaxy S4 and my girlfriends S7?

dongle?
My 2008 has Bluetooth puck under the armrest.
It was add-on item from what I know, although the car was prewired. I found puck box in the trunk.
Lot of members report that those units never go to sleep, draining the batteries when you park the car for couple of days.

I was referring to the "puck" as a "dongle" but yes that is what I meant. I believe it fits in the console? Thanks for the tip. This will be a daily driver for me but when I travel for work I will hook it up to a trickle.

I only use my car on the weekends. Will my battery be draining prematurely?

I've got the Bluetooth thing in my center console on the E63 and will regularly go 1-2 weeks or more without driving the car. Never had an issue.

I have no idea if that setup works for what you want. I don't do those things and just use my phone for music in the car with the Aux input in the glovebox.

I've found that using the Aux input in the glovebox (with the cable run under stuff until it pops out on the corner of the ashtray door) I can use all my phone's functions: Music, phone, whatever audio I need through the stereo. Calls are played through the speakers and I have yet to have a caller complain that they can't hear me through the phone's mic. Better audio quality than bluetooth to boot.

Makes sense since it's just the audio that you're hearing that goes through the speakers. The person you're talking to just picks up your voice as if you were on speaker phone.

I have a Galaxy S8 that still works fine on my 2008. I have the 3rd gen puck, it's the brown one. The silver one is the 2nd gen one. Third gen is slightly better but the 2nd gen should also still work. While the bluetooth light still flashes when the car is off, it takes a while to drain the battery. Still have the OEM AGM battery in the car, it's 10 years old at this point. It's usually not parked for more than a week, but after 3-4 days it's fine, no issues. If you have the ipod cable in the glove box, there will be no aux cable. I use a 4th gen ipod touch with spotify on it to play my music and I can use the steering wheel controls to go to the next song. Buttons also work for answering calls with bluetooth.

I did the test in the past and not remembering the exact time - my car goes to full sleep in like 2-3 minutes and Bluetooth is dead after that time.
Other members report that their car is answering the calls when they sit in family room 1 hr after parking the car in garage.
My conclusion is that lot of those cars have common problems with door switches, or other stuff preventing them from going to sleep and owners don't even notice that till situation like that comes.

I use the LAPower bluetooth unit that takes the place of the CD changer in my 07. I can make calls from it, stream bluetooth audio and now have a fancy stow-away cubby for my wallet. It was plug and play and cost around $140.
