I've been lurking the forums for quite a while and have noticed I'm not the only one interested in getting a Euro DVD COMAND setup .

Perhaps this could help us get an idea of the demand there is for a replacement USA NAV or new install. Maybe get us a group discount from our MB God Steve.

So how many of us are out there and where?

Couple of questions about the Euro COMAND:

1. How much? I've seen some pricing, but that it was going up as it became harder to get the Euro COMAND units.
2. If we got the Euro COMAND, will we be able to get the MP3 upgrade that some outside of the US members have gotten?
3. How about the UHI for Motorola phones? If I got the new Moto v710 coming out for Verizon, I dream of being able to use the UHI with the Euro COMAND through Bluetooth.
4. Not as important, but would the Euro COMAND and UHI also allow the WAP capabilities that Oslo showed off in his car?

Seeing the posts about the Euro COMAND with Bluetooth got me interested. So I asked scorchie about this and this was his reply:


bluetooth is not all that it is cracked up to be with the Euro COMAND.

1) it is misleading; bluetooth is NOT part of the COMAND

2) bluetooth is NOT part of... well anything!

3) bluetooth is part of the phone system you can buy in europe
(if you get this phone system, you have to replace the CP,
which means you won't have teleaid)

4) if you do use bluetooth, your phone still won't charge or
have an external antenna, which means reception won't be any
better... your car just acts like a big bluetooth handset

I'm sure scorchie will have more to say. And it he can get bluetooth to work here in America, I'm sure we'll see pics of it.

Per e-mail i received from Wanda over the weekend.

The price for the euro command is $1500 with trade in of your US command. In addition, you need to put down a deposit of $1k (this will be refunded when steve takes away your US command).

T-Bone. I may stand corrected, and therefore I have deleted my input in this thread. It’s actually the "Festtelefon" (fixed phone installation) that has the Bluetooth system. It communicates via COMAND, but the Bluetooth chip is located in the fixed phone. Sorry.

I asked Steve about this and I would just like to point out... this pricing he is offering now (that I certainly jumped on!) is for his first batch of units which are quickly running out.

Once that batch is gone, he can't guarantee pricing.

With the EURO Command, can I listen to US AM Radio stations. I have heard that the EURO Command does not increase radion stations by 10. Can you just enter the number and save it as a preset?

On the W211, the radio is not in the COMAND. It is in the Audio Gateway, which is not modified when installing a Euro COMAND.

Which means, your AM stations are untouched. Your radio presets will already be there. And the tuning spacing is 10KHz still.

Now I am just plain confused. If I upgrade to the Euro Comand in order to get NAV, my radio stays the same and the radio just uses the display of the Comand to show the current station, presets, and etc.?

By the way, I am not interested in DVD playback. I'm just interested in adding NAV to my 2003 E320.

You can also get a US COMAND then, which from Steve is the same price as the Euro COMANDs at this time. That assume availability, and pricing of both is determined by the batch you buy it from (i.e. the pricing quoted is until the units he has at that price run out).

To summarize.

I can get a US Comand to replace my current Audio 50 Comand that will add NAV to my 2003 E320. My E320 was built in January of 2003 and was NOT pre-wired for NAV. The main visible difference will be the removal of the cassette player to make room for the larger comand screen.

The cost is based on availability of current replacement comand units.

I am interested as well, have already spoken with Steve via email. I was skeptical because with Euro COMAND you can not get sat radio.. but I'm starting to think thats a waste of time. Playing DVD/MP3s might make up for that. Duno.. How much would a US COMAND go for on ebay??? Probalby lots of 03 guys out there that want COMAND.

Wll Steve have access to the CD that updates the COMAND to have the MP3 capability? And if he is not able to update it before or upon installation, how would a purchaser get the CD to do the udpate?

ok ok so you guys are saying that the US COMMAND CAN be retrofitted for my 2003 e500????? Where can I buy and install US COMMAND? You think dealer can do this? I really want to install COMMAND, doesn't matter if it's US or EUROPE. Any suggestions????

yes, your 2003 E500 can be retrofitted by command. You need to talk to steve the god's hand. He can do anything.

No dealer in the US will do anything. I am not sure where you live. But if you live in CA, you will see steve in july.
