EPC help for pulleys - keep shredding my belt
Sorry all, first time MB owner, have had my fair share of BMWs and rely on "realoem.com" for accurate parts diagram at times.
I am experiencing problem with my belt... Long story short, as preventive maintenance, I replaced the belt at 100k mi, along with two idler pulleys. Few months later, tensioning pulley either sealed or melted. Replaced the pulley (kept the tension pulley), and again few months later, lower idler was making noise so I swapped it again. couple months later , belt shredded while driving and upper pulley broke off along with it. Replaced, and three weeks later, belt shredded. All pulleys seems fine, no noises, smooth, no sharp edges.

You stressed the tensioner when you change the belt the first time and as a result the tensioner pulley is sitting at an angle to the direction of the belt travel you can observe this I looking straight down with the engine running and the belt will not track straight

Yup, odds are the actual tensioner part of your tensioner is failed. Just replacing the pulley wasn't good enough in this case sadly. You can usually see them when removed, the gap where the body pivots around the arm will be collapsed on one side, and the tensioner won't sit square anymore, allowing the belt to side-load all the pulleys and shorten the life of them.

Help with pullies that shred the belt
Does anyone have a solution to this because I just replaced my belts and pullies 4 months ago and the first time I replaced it it was making a type of rubbing noise. Later down the road noticed the belt was wearing again so took it to Mercedes for a diagnosis which they said the lower idler pulley was cause wear on the belt and the the tensioner and the other pulley needed to be replaced. So replaced all of that and I still have the wear noise. I have a video with the sounds

Did Mercedes do the work? If they did, should have a one year warranty. Take it back and have them redo it. I think there was a washer behind one pulley but not the other, can't remember which one. The tensioners do go bad so normally you replace the idler pulleys plus the tensioner and belt. It's also possible some other item like alternator might also be bad but you can check them individually once the belt is off.

No Mercedes didn’t do the work, I did. Mercedes did a diagnosis on it. The crazy thing is about 3 or 4 months ago the idle pullies were replaced but they were still making that noise but didn’t think anything. But here on this new time around it makes the noise but not all the time. Depending on if you drive or if your sitting still. Sometimes I can’t hear it all and sometimes I do. But I actually don’t remember putting a washer on. I think the bottom one may have had one but nore sure because that bottom pullies came off into pieces. Like the inside was a lil apart. But if it is a washer that goes back there how would I know for sure and where can I get that correct one to replace? Or does it matter if it’s the correct one. Sorry for all the questions, just my moms truck and trying to get it straight for her.
