brake pedal vibration in 2004 E320...

hey!! has anyone noticed a vibration and a buzzing noise through the brake pedal when you step on the brakes?? Also, after starting the car, somethings starts buzzing for about 10 secs then goes away..is this normal or has something to do with the SBC??This has been going on since the car was brand new, but the brakes work just fine.....

PS--has anyone noticed that most 2004 E320 wagons are 4matic??I know the E500 comes standard with it, but even the E320's I see have 4matic....just curious

E500 does not come standard with 4MATIC.

When was your 2004 built? There is a fix for this problem..

An SBC pump will run to keep up the pressure, both during operation and sometimes when the door is first opened. Mine makes a muffled pump sound, is not objectionable, and has done so since new. Some people either have a loud vibration or find the sound objectionable. The pump is a normal sound, however.

akbro,

When you say "stepping" on the brake pedal, do you mean just generally or do you mean REALLY stepping on them? Standing on the brakes in a panic stop can activate the ABS, in which case you can feel vibration from the rapid opening and closing of the calipers on the rotors.

As for me, I've never noticed any sounds or vibrations in general braking.

No, I mean just putting on the brakes in general. With SBC, you can't feel the ABS pumping the brakes though....

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that--I see now in the brochure that Sensotronic eliminates ABS pedal pulsation. Thanks again.

Brake pump noise way to loud

Is this really a noise that is normal? I also have a 2003 and after taking it to the dealership around 5 times, they insist that it's just normal. Mine makes the buzzing sound so loud that passengers hear it - also when you first unlock the car, people also hear that. It's just so overwhelmingly loud that I can't believe it's normal. Is there a fix for this? I have a friend who has the same year car and his dealership fixed it. Can they replace the pump? I love this car but this one thing is obnoxious. It sounds like the car is passing gas!

That noise and vibration has been bothering me every time I drive my car. I'm gonna take my car to the dealer for its first maintenace in couple days (been back to the dealer more than 5 times for warranty work), hope someone can provide a fix to it.
And there is one more thing, does all of your brake pedal make a "click" noise everytime you step on it?? ....cuz none of my other cars does this including my clk....

There are 2 mods avbailable for this - severity varies from car-to-car....

1. There is a software update - this has done little on my 05 model w211 270CDI - not much change....

2. Apparently the pipes to the compressor can be cahnged - this is a bigger job, will not completely remove the probelm but should help. I plan to have this done at my first service.

Wierd though isn't it....

I had a "click" on another (non MB) car. On that car it was the plunger on the brake light switch not popping out immediately as the pedal was pushed down, and it popping out a second later to its fully extended position. Step on the brake while backed up to a wall & observe if the brake lights come on immediately.

Assuming MB has this type of switch... but it might have some other switch resting against the brake pedal "arm".
