changing the station by steering wheel buttons
Thanks.
The good thing was you checked your owner's manual first.
The bad thing is you did not STFF (search the fine forum).
Through judicious application of the search function, you can elevate yourself to enlightenment.

On my old 02 C320 there was a way to set the steering wheel buttons to change the radio stations by presets instead of by going up to the next available station numerically. I've been trying to figure it out on my new E320, but have had no luck, I couldn't find anything the owners manual either. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks.
You will find them in the instrument cluster control panel.
You did one good thing and one bad thing.

I typed fewer words and got the answer out .... is judicious the same thing as useless ?
Even if your answer was the correct one, it would be cluttering the forum with repeated answers... thus reducing the effectiveness of the search function.

ok, thanks Barry45RPM and miroj. I thought that it might not be possible, because I couldn't find anything. And scorchie, you are such a loser that you actually took the time out of your day to reply to a question with a smart *** answer just to get your rocks off? wow.
Good luck. And into the ignore bin!

what frustration, just ******* ignore it, instead of taking the time to reply with a stupid comment.
"Umm, OK, whatever... you're so selfish that you can't understand that this should be a resource for everyone."
resource for everyone? ok, how am i using up other people's resources? by taking up one line in a forum that consists of about thirty or so threads per page? you're an idiot.
Don't get so upset that someone has put you in his "ignore list" for he is not interested in you, and you will find no shortage here of people who WILL jump in and help you! Its a big community here, and just like any community real or virtual not every neighbor is a lifelong friend.
Down the road, you will still be able to see his posts, and as you become more familliar with your car, and may discover things, HE will not be notified of your new posts which may be buried deep within a thread...So who is the real loser in that deal...?
Don't feel hurt or insulted, come back often & ask what you want! There are a lot of great people here!
P.S. He put me on his ignore list months ago!

P.P.S. Update your profile with your "Location" so we know which geographical area you are in. These cars are different in every country in which they are sold.

You wouldnt know right off hand, but this topic has been beaten up over and over for the past 2 years.. hence the frustration.
I dont plan on hanging around.
Eventhough this might not be of much use and might not be apreciated by anyone...
The W211 default setting with which it comes from factory - the feature to choose between search by frequency or search by preset station is switched off in the instrument cluster (sorry Miro - wrong answer eventhough you used less words).
This setting - however - can be switched on with the help of stardiagnose after which the IC will come with an additional setting menu in which one can choose between preset or frequency search...BUT IT DOESN"T MAKE A SINGLE DIFFERENCE as the up/down button from the steering wheel will continue going through frequencies rather then going through preset stations which is the reason why this setting is switched off in default setting anyways.
it is a software glitch that hasn't been worked out yet
greetingz,
it is a software glitch that hasn't been worked out yet
YMMV.

I also read on the Internet that a little boy with cancer named Craig Shergold wants to set the world record for get-well cards.
Be that as it may be, if the no-presets "feature" is a software glitch that is corrected on the latest-production W211s, the same software fix should be available for installation on each and every W211, no?

... (sorry Miro - wrong answer eventhough you used less words).
A lot of this information is very specific to date of manufacture.
Here is one of the recent threds covering this topic, among many found in a 10 second search for "radio presets"
If this is the home of the frustrated then I suppose it is the wrong place to ask questions about cars. This really is the most sarcastic forum I have come across for this type of car.
I dont plan on hanging around.
I was not being sarcastic, just straight forward in explanation for scorchie. Honestly this is one of the best forums around. Hang out on a BMW or P-car or Audi board and then tell me about sarcastic and useless.. I've been on them all.
Personally I judge a forum by how many part numbers and hard core facts it produces. Thank god for MBenzNL is what I think.
Personal opinion does not make cars go faster or better ....... so why spread attitude.
I can only suggest that it takes more energy to fart around than it does to pull out the facts. For one thing is makes the facts look thinner and makes 1 page of information stretch over 3 pages.
