I bought one last weekend. 3.5 mm male stereo at both ends. The standard headphone output is 3.5mm but you should make sure that that is what the Philips has. There are some 2.5mm miniature jacks but I forget what they are used for.

Before you buy it at Radio Shack, you may want to read this thread:

But yeah, like BoSoxFan said. Incidentally, the 2.5mm plugs are generally used for phone (and other) headsets.

You always need to be careful with Radio Shack. Any place that sells DVDs/CDs, audio, or computer equipment should have one. That's where I got mine.

I got the Audio Dubbing Cable and it works perfect. It does lost the sound quality a little but I'm just guessin thats from the MP3s or .WMA. The guy was helpful in comin out to look at the car and for me to choose the right one. BTW, he was droolin over the E! And I quote, "The E-class owners are so lucky!"

The only people that would say that never owned a Benz. Could they be the truly lucky ones?

The loss of quality is probably due to the mp3 or wma formats which sacrifice quality for file size. If your player allows it, try encoding in a higher quality format.

I know that I'm beating a dead horse here but my only complaint is not having steering wheel button control and display of artist/track info. It's a good feature otherwise.

So allow me to ask a dumb question- If I buy a mp3 player, I can connect it into the radio through the aux jack in the glove box. So how do you get the tunes on the mp3? Does the mp3 have seperate volume and channel controls? Just unfamiliar here thats all..

You plug in the player, turn it on, select a playlist, and adjust the volume. I set mine at about 50% gain, some people set theirs as high as 100%. Then, you select Audio on the COMAND, and AUX. Use your HU or steering wheel volume controls to adjust the levels. You'll have to take the player out of the glovebox and use its controls to change tracks or playlists.

Sorry, I missed this part of your question. You can subscribe to a service to download tunes from the Internet (for a fee) or you can use your computer to copy your own CDs on to the player. Instructions and software should come with the unit.

I bought the cable from Radio Shack. It works fine. I wanted a thinner cable so I could keep the iPod in the cabin so I could skip songs, change playlists etc... but the gap when the glove box is closed is pretty tight. I set the iPod volume at about 90%. On my previous gen iPod I used the iTrip which worked but not nearly as well as the direct connect.

I have a source as to where I download my music from. it basically gets sent to me and others who request it. It all ranges from Movies to Soundtracks, to advanced released albums (or bootlegs), and for those sexually stimulated, ****. Nonetheless, I just put it all on my MP3 and plug and play basically.

If anyone is interested in this kind of service, you do pay a varying amount based on MB size you want/need. Contact me thru PM and i'll hook you up with the details and procedures for this. Quite better than kaZaA or iMesh or any other RIAA infiltrated software.
