this car does NOT want to stay under 100!
It is scary how easy it is to pass someone even when you're starting from 80mph. It is rock solid at 100+! I have to keep a close eye on the speedo when i'm on the highway and there are no other cars around to tip me off as to how fast I'm going!
Had a little fun last night with an SL500 and a Corvette. I think the vette was a little surprised that he couldn't shake the chick driving the 4-door sedan off his tail
btw: does MB sponsor any driving events? When I first got my Audi I went to their Audi Quattro Challenge at Sebring. You get to take your car through several courses designed to show you what it is capable of. It was an excellent event and helped me become familiar with the capabilities and limitations of the car. I would love to know if MB sponsers such events.

Wish my wife was into cars as much as miamigirl LOL
BTW, I must agree it takes alot of "restraint" for me to keep this car below 100mph. Yes...I know speed kills but I've never driven a car that feels so capable at these speeds.
Happy Motoring

I, however, get a serious thrill from knowing I have so much power on tap .

miamigrl....you have any sisters or friends with your disposition. my girl thinks i'm crazy always washing my car, driving fast for no reason.
i cant keep this bad boy under a 100 for nothing. its a monster. imagine having an E55?
my next car will be my 2nd car....i'm driving this til the wheels fall off...and i think i will have to go with an E55 0r SL55. i regret not spending the extra cash. I paid 73,000 (fully loaded) for my E500 and wish i would have spent more. ANyway for my first benz i cant complain....

Check out your local Sections of the MB Club of America or other sports car clubs in your area. Our Souther CA MBCA is holding a Defensive Driving event in October and some of the car clubs hold Auto Cross events at several venues near us. In these you run against the clock and not other cars but they really help you to better handle your vehicle. I started running in the Auto Cross meets in Ohio when I got one of the first RX-7's in the late 70's. That was a GREAT handling vehicle and really fun to drive agressively. Put over 100K miles on it and never had a problem with it. I'm sure you can find such events near Miami and wouldn't be surprised if they hold such events at the old Homestead Air Base near you.
BMW is known for having driving events across the country where you can drive their new vehicles on a simulated road course set up with pylons on old runways or large parking areas. My wife and I have participated in several here for BMW, MB and Cadillac over the years and all have been a lot of fun but your didn't get to use your own car. That's an advantage if you don't want to tear up the brakes, tires and suspension in your own.
You should also be careful to avoid participating in any event that is not covered by your insurance or the MB warranty. The Defensive Driving Event is OK but some of the Rallys and Auto Cross events may be considered as races even though you are only running against the clock.
