It is scary how easy it is to pass someone even when you're starting from 80mph. It is rock solid at 100+! I have to keep a close eye on the speedo when i'm on the highway and there are no other cars around to tip me off as to how fast I'm going!
Had a little fun last night with an SL500 and a Corvette. I think the vette was a little surprised that he couldn't shake the chick driving the 4-door sedan off his tail
btw: does MB sponsor any driving events? When I first got my Audi I went to their Audi Quattro Challenge at Sebring. You get to take your car through several courses designed to show you what it is capable of. It was an excellent event and helped me become familiar with the capabilities and limitations of the car. I would love to know if MB sponsers such events.

Yeah, someone called me crazy a couple of weeks ago just because I admitted that I hit the limiter a few times a month. I was trying to say that it's rock solid at 140mph

From the best of my knowledge I have yet to hear of such events for mb cars but I know they do such events with AMG cars. AMG does throw out events once in a while but as for the regular mb vehicles I have no idea. Jus my 2 cents...Originally Posted by miamigrrl

Hubby got the E320 in December. He's a very leisurely driver so he said he could do without the V8. I just got the E500 on May 31st. I am not a leisurely driver :v .Originally Posted by yxc145

Wish my wife was into cars as much as miamigirl LOL
BTW, I must agree it takes alot of "restraint" for me to keep this car below 100mph. Yes...I know speed kills but I've never driven a car that feels so capable at these speeds.

He really doesn't care. I tried to talk him into getting the 500 back in December, but he said the 320 was fine. He likes the luxury but doesn't need the performance of the 500. He's a very leisurely driver. He figures when he feels the need to go on a spirited drive, he can take my car (if I let him Originally Posted by yxc145

).I, however, get a serious thrill from knowing I have so much power on tap

Hey what's the top speed of the E500? Is it 155mph or is it limited to something lower (130)?
MBWorld Fanatic!
155 limited (tire limitation or something). This car is a bullet, however I'd prefer to have 180 limit, sometime 155 is too slow.

miamigrrl, has your thirst for power ever left you considering an E55?

I told my hubby just this weekend, "you know, the only thing I can get after this will be an AMG car!" Originally Posted by DevilishBenz

I also suggested he give his 320 to his father, take my 500, and I get the 55... lol.. he didn't go for it

I'm assuming the 'Vette was an older model because a C5 or even an LT1 C4 would have handed you your *ss.

sometimes the speed doesnt matter. someone in an E55 tried to shake me the other day and couldnt, while this guy in a Acura Legend Coupe handed me my a$$ the other day. Had to be souped up. I should have went 3rd gear on his a$$.
miamigrl....you have any sisters or friends with your disposition. my girl thinks i'm crazy always washing my car, driving fast for no reason.
i cant keep this bad boy under a 100 for nothing. its a monster. imagine having an E55?
my next car will be my 2nd car....i'm driving this til the wheels fall off...and i think i will have to go with an E55 0r SL55. i regret not spending the extra cash. I paid 73,000 (fully loaded) for my E500 and wish i would have spent more. ANyway for my first benz i cant complain....
live it up girl....or as us jamaicans say 'UP TO THE TIME" which means live in the moment...

I sometimes regret not getting the E55 as well. However, know I would have modded that as well, and in the end it would still have cost $25K more.Originally Posted by lyrixmajor

Check out your local Sections of the MB Club of America or other sports car clubs in your area. Our Souther CA MBCA is holding a Defensive Driving event in October and some of the car clubs hold Auto Cross events at several venues near us. In these you run against the clock and not other cars but they really help you to better handle your vehicle. I started running in the Auto Cross meets in Ohio when I got one of the first RX-7's in the late 70's. That was a GREAT handling vehicle and really fun to drive agressively. Put over 100K miles on it and never had a problem with it. I'm sure you can find such events near Miami and wouldn't be surprised if they hold such events at the old Homestead Air Base near you.
BMW is known for having driving events across the country where you can drive their new vehicles on a simulated road course set up with pylons on old runways or large parking areas. My wife and I have participated in several here for BMW, MB and Cadillac over the years and all have been a lot of fun but your didn't get to use your own car. That's an advantage if you don't want to tear up the brakes, tires and suspension in your own.
You should also be careful to avoid participating in any event that is not covered by your insurance or the MB warranty. The Defensive Driving Event is OK but some of the Rallys and Auto Cross events may be considered as races even though you are only running against the clock.

Didn't I tell you once before you should have just gone a little further and gotten the E55 Originally Posted by lyrixmajor

As much as I loved my '03 E500 I always regretted not getting the E55. I didn't take to much of a bath, but lost some. And as far as the E55 not being able to shake you? Was he trying, LOL. Having owned both cars, there is no way an E55 will not pull EASILY on the E500.MBWorld Fanatic!

You are so right. I had a pre nav '03 E500 then got the replacement. The best car I ever owned. Until a year later my bad side :v couldn't keep all those thoughts out of my head that I should have gotten an E55 in the first place. Got the car in May and it is simply amazing. I go like this Originally Posted by CALBenzo

every time I get in the car. But you know where I was last week? At a shop talking about Kleemann mods!! Approx. $7,500 for almost an extra 100 HP and some more torque (just what this car needs!). the funniest thing is I e-mailed Kleemann today and asked if the ECU removes the speed limiter. His response: "The upgrade will increase top speed to 187 mph. For an extra $300 I can have it umlimited. 187 should be sufficient, though". How funny is that. Where in the hell am I going to go 187? Get pulled over for that, you'll get thown in jail. After the cops beat the ever living s**t out of you.
