07 E350 PZEV Fuel Tank, Swap to Non PZEV Tank
seen this question asked a bunch, has anyone done it? out of the pzev emissions warranty, want to know if the standard plastic tank with both fuel pumps accessible will work.

Don't PZEV tanks have 15 years warranty?

MB tends to replace the tank when there's a leak, but when it's out of warranty, people either replace just the fuel pump or use some RTV on the gasket to fix the leak.

There is no leak. The fuel pump is bad, normally needs new tank. I want to put a regular tank in it and delete the pos california tank that is not serviceable. PZEV car, if you dont know what that is your comment does not apply to this model

just went through the same exact situation on my 03 e55. was out of warranty by 45 days. I wanted to cry
I bought the $1000 FCP euro e55 fuel pump kit...and paid a private Benz shop to install it
imo this is your best option if you plan to keep the car more than a couple years

I had an 2003 non-pzev tank to begin with.
fcp euro sells a $1000 fuel pump kit that gives you the left and right side assemblies. sender + pump i think.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mercedes-fuel-pump-replacement-kit-genuine-mercedes-2714700000
you can only buy pzev-compatible internal assemblies now
the pzev internals (fuel pump+sender) are able to be installed in a non pzev tank. my shop was confused at first because a connection for pzev kinda just sit there unused but that is perfectly fine.
they put pzev intervals in my non pzev tank and all went back to normal. no leak no gas smell no burnt wiring harnesses anymore.
I paid kit + labor it was around $500 labor so $1500 total.
in later years Mercedes apparently switched to a pzev tank. this tank I have read is harder to deal with . I forget if you can just put the kit in the pzev version. I thought I read once the pzev tank needs to be replaced if something is wrong. but I am confused why you can't put the fcp euro kit into a pzev car ?
Is the pzev tank harder to access or something ?
in this thread further up someone even says "you can't replace the pump on a pzev car has to be the whole tank"I
i didn't have a pzev tank so I don't know why those people can't install the kit I got
can someone with pzev explain how/why the fcp euro kit doesn't work even tho the sender and pump in the kit are for pzev ?

Very important question specially for this model (PZEV) in particular, late comment but I have to reply.
It took me to a deep diagnosis due to the (ECU) false flags, until I saw the (MPG) was starving at (7.5).
Wait a min it should be around (30).
On the other hand the (ECU) throwing codes for Rich Condition while the engine was starving, the actual reason for the (ECU) to decide for a rich condition was the high readings from the exhaust (O2 sensor) and that triggered the (ECU) codes, the fuel is being wasted from the exhaust and it was (poor condition) it turned out one of the pumps (the filter) was causing it by reversing the process and forcing (the sending) pump to send more fuel to waste due to the poor readings of the (MPG).
The polarity of the filter connection was reversed and the adaptor was not compatible with the pumps.
FYI, I've changed everything but the wire adaptor so keep it in mind the new pumps (adaptor/sequence) is different from (PZEV).
The Relay can be upgraded to +40 amps (optional).
Thanks to MBWorld members and the $10 wire adaptor the mission accomplished.
I hope this comment helps you.
If this type of malfunctions diagnosed wrong it could cost a lot in vain like the intake manifold for example.
