2008 W211 Starts with Dark Instrument Cluster + Hot air AC

08 E350 starts, immediately dashboard (instrument cluster) goes dark.

All electrical functions are disabled. Gear can’t be shifted from Park to D.

Lights do come on but if driver door is open, a message to turn off lights is displayed even though car is running.

A/C, power windows etc are disabled.

When I turn off the car, I have to pull key completely out and reinsert for it to turn car back on.

When I only turn ignition to position 2, all electricals work and I can I also shift to N to start the car from which I can still push car to D. Car would drive but with all gauges off so no speed, gas, or temp readings.

I have changed break stop light switch but I still get the ESP, ABS, lights on when the car eventually starts “normally”.

Any ideas what could be the problem please.

At times it throws the CEL, at times it doesn’t.

What could be be happening with this car. It’s about 162k miles on it.

Running the a/c diagnostic on the ODB II never completes. I get the 7F 12 80 code which I have no idea what that means.

Also the car just started blowing hot air on idle while it freezes me cold when driving at higher speeds. Sometimes putting AC at max, allows for cool.

There’s enough gas in the system. I checked that before. Now the low pressure gauge goes to the red zone.

How is the battery? Healthy? Old? Corroded terminals?
Got any codes from a reader that go deeper than OBD-II?

Thanks for the response. Well I haven't changed the battery since I bought the car about 2.5 years ago.
The battery looks pretty healthy and I just measured the voltage after more than 30 hours of the car not started at all.
voltage = 12.48 V.
Voltage with car running is 14.1 V.

Not done any scanning with any other reader than the Creator C502 : Benz + OBD Multi-system Scanner.

I have DTC: 9001, Undervoltage supply for the EZS Electronic Ignition.

C141, C155, C164, 0513 for the Transmission scan

I also get this code 7F 12 80 when scanning the AC component and the scanner stays forzen.

Thanks for your insights.

I personally would disconnect each battery and test the voltage. It sounds as tho the accessories battery needs replaced (dead cell). I could be totally off base too.

You're right, I was struggling with @boardboy330 suggestion too. Thanks for the post because I hadn't located the aux battery still.
What' s funny is that at times the car starts without giving the ESP/ABS lights or CEL then at times I just keep getting that dark IC..... very frustrating .... any suggestions?
