RWD W211 Daily Driver In Winter
Hi all, I drive a rear wheel drive w211 (e500) specifically and am planning to move to a climate with real winters in about a year. Is a properly equipped w211 going to be okay in winter... Given I use winter tyres starting at the first snowfall and weights in the boot? Really don’t want to part with this car. Currently I am riding at stock height... would comfort suspension and the raising mechanism give sufficient ground clearance?
I’m looking at moving to Eastern Washington/Idaho area for anyone curious, and they get quite a bit of snow. The roads around the places I'm looking at are pretty well maintained and plowed.

Yep. As long as you use snow tires when it's snowy, you should be fine. Eastern Washington is pretty flat, so just drive like the ol' folks taught us, i. e. pretend there's an egg between your foot and the pedals. Our E320 CDI, also RWD, does relatively fine in our area in the snow even with all-season tires.

I live in Eastern Idaho, right up against the Grand Teton range. Rear wheel drive is how cars are meant to be driven in the snow. Hakkapelitta R2 tires turn winter into summer. Be sure to turn off the ESP every now and then so you don't forget how the car works without a nanny watching out for your heavy right foot.
