Question Where to sell '03 E320 ?

I have to sell my '03 E320 as I am moving to the UK where I will buy a RHD E320 CDI to replace mine. However, I am having some trouble selling mine. Some suggestions on where to place ads for the car would be appreciated as I've never sold a luxury car before.

I've got ads on cars.com, autotrader, carsdirect and a local newspaper and no bites.

Heres the info on the car : https://mbworld.org/forums/classifieds/78830-fs-2003-e320-sedan.html

Is the price too high ? I'm in central Massachusetts where dealers generally sell cars at MSRP or just below.

Thanks for any ideas.

If someone would offer me 45K for my '03 I'd take it in a second.

I think your price is pretty high. My car stickered for 53K with options and the purchase price was ~49800 or so new.

Good luck on the sale.

Where are you located? As we've seen many times on this forum, location makes a huge difference in price. Getting $3k off the sticker here in the North East would be difficult if not impossible.

I'm not sure what to price it at and that is certainly part of my problem. All the online guides are all over the map as it's still a relatively new car.

I just went through this with my car. It was a hot car that was reasonably priced and it was a nightmare. I spent a lot of time worrying and ended up trading it in at the end. Ebay is one consideration but not a great one.

If I were you I would either ship my car to europe or trade it in to a US dealership and take European delivery of the CDI through the same dealership...

I'm in Seattle. The deal was struck in Feb. '03.

It seems like L.A. is pretty good for deals - I have no idea of what the East Coast dealers were doing - but @ 45K out here - that car wouldn't sell.

Kelly Private party value on my car is 36-38K using my zip code.

Edmunds trade in value: ~38K Private Party ~ 40K Certified Used Dealer Price ~43-44K

Hope that helps...

I lowered the price

After reading the responses here I decided to lower the price to $43,000 which I hope is more reasonable. I searched the Starmarked cars at local mb dealers and found that similar cars are listed for $45-$46k Since this is still under warranty and has an extended warranty and includes winter wheels/tires, I figure $43k is reasonable

Are you the guy who posted this on Craig's?

Mehul,

I think we spoke on the phone about your car about 2 weeks ago. You also have a X5 for sale, correct?

If you haven't sold it already it might mean it's priced a little too high even at $43K. What did the dealer offer you? Generally take the average between that and the price in the lot of a comparable vehicle. I would certainly not go by certified pre-owned prices, first of all those are dealer prices and since they are CPO vehicles that adds a few grand into the mix. Also, averaging Edmunds and KBB private party valuations might be a good place to start.

In any case, post back here when you sell it, I am in the market for a car almost identical to yours but I don't want to pay over $38K - $40K so this would be a good indicator for me (I might be unrealistic myself).

Yes I spoke to you earlier and I do have the X5 for sale as well (and a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee!! ). SInce I'm moving abroad I have to sell all my cars, TV's, my house and a lot of electric/electronic things!

I think I'll be all right at 43k for a while, the dealer offered me $39500. As far as the CPO cars go they were around 46k had no extended warranty (though the CPO would cover that, no pano roof (which seems to be in demand) and no winter tires/wheels. The 43k price is approx. in the middle of the selling and buying price at the dealers.

I'm going to hold at $43k for a while to see what happens.

You might be a little low on your expectations for buying. If a dealer offered me $39500 there's no way you'll get one at that price. Maybe we could copme to some sort of agreement ?.
