Guides you? That's new. Refusing to answer questions, yes, definitely. "Look on the website" when the website says nothing. And then getting all uppity when you call him out on it.

I sincerely hope this is not how you treat your other customers. At this point I'd rather spend hundreds of hours learning how to do this myself than deal with BenzNinja again.

Considering each time I did that it took you weeks and reminders to reply, and then start insulting me, no thanks.

Peter spent quite some time configuring my laptop to work correctly, I admire his tenacity at not being beaten by IBM! I have not used the software before but after 30 minutes of connecting to my S211 l managed to reverse the self induced problems created previously with the window and tailgate switches using an iCarsoft diagnostic tool that would not allow me to reverse the problem.
I have yet to ask for Peters help on the car itself, so far only asking a couple of questions on the software and laptop setup as I like to research and solve problems myself if possible, all part of the learning curve. Great to know l can ask for help any time if I do get stuck.

I have used several different SDS systems from China and other marketplaces online that all say they have the best version of Xentry, etc. They all had flaws or just didn’t work. BenzNinja has the best set up by far. It is the only system I would recommend.
Peter configured the system the same day it arrived in the mail. He spent a good bit of time, configuring the settings and provided instruction. We were able to fix a head unit that I figured was long gone. Peter saved me from having to buy a brand new head unit in just a matter of minutes by coding and restoring the unit. The system paid for itself…

Borrow?
How can I tell whether or not any of my modules need updating, without spending money with BenzNinja, or a dealership? I don't want to invest a bunch of money and time, only to find out that everything is fully updated.

I'm just some unknown goof on the internet so consider this advice for what its costing you. The reason to buy a BenzNinja subscription and the associated hardware is more than just occasionally updating some module. If you plan to work on these cars you need computer access. You can cobble something together from eBay/AliExpress and if you spend enough time and effort you can likely get something for under $500. Any decent code tool is going to start at a minimum of $500 unless you're happy with a real cheapo Harbor Freight knockoff. I'm happy that I paid the premium to have a guaranteed plug and play hardware setup along with immediate personal assistance whenever I call for it. Every time I talk to Peter I learn something new. Until I get the kraut-caddie dialed in I expect our contacts will be fairly frequent. Some day I hope to get to the stage where I don't need to call him and where I kind of forget how to use Xentry and its associated software. And I say "associated software" advisedly because there's a whole lot more to the BenzNinja experience than just Xentry.
Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the reply, My car runs perfectly, like it's fresh off the showroom floor. I just want to get Android Auto working.... BUT... in reading through this forum, and emailing with BenzNinja, maybe this is a case of "I don't know what I don't know". For example, I didn't even know about the ILS+ feature being disabled in the USA... so I didn't even know that this was something that I might want. Regarding "updates"... again, my car runs fine, but perhaps there is a firmware update for the Transmission Control module for shift firmness, line pressure, clutch slippage, etc. It seems like when you go to a dealership, unless you are having a problem they don't check for updates.... but updates might prevent a future problem. It's just a lot of money to spend for a "maybe". So far it seems like I don't need computer equipment to work on this car....Like a BMW 5-series that needs a computer to bleed the brake system. But that's why I'm here in this thread to ask questions and learn more.

Like I said already, I'm just some unknown goof but in my opinion if you're going to work on any modern vehicle (for sure anything post 2000) you need computer access. And by "access" I mean more than just some basic generic code reader. I come from the Ford world. I've worked on 6 litre Powerstrokes but I couldn't have done that without Forscan. Xentry is amazing and its just a part of the BenzNinja package. Absolutely its expensive but for me its essential.

I went ahead and dove in head first and bought the whole BenzNinja package. I am excited to get the ILS+ lights, and my Android Auto working, and Peter told me about being able to also default starting the vehicle in Individial mode, as well as some other tweaks like having the blinkers flash 5 times for a "bump" of the signal. As far as updating any modules, I guess we'll see if my car needs anything once we get it all up and running.
I will echo what everyone has said that Peter is great about communicating. That was a huge point for me. I have some experience using Ford IDS equipment (had to rebuild an ECU once with as-built data and get through PATS) and remote tuning of Ford vehicles using SCT and Sniper software, and the communication isn't always great with people that are working / tuning remotely, BUT that doesn't seem to be the case with BenzNinja.
Will report back with results.

Enjoy the adventure. You'll need good solid wifi wherever you are running your diagnostics. I run my shop on a wifi extender and it has been a problem from time to time. Peter will be on WhatsApp during a session and he'll also be controlling your computer. That takes a bunch of bandwidth and it needs to be reliable to avoid dropping either the call or the remote desktop session.
