Seatbelt warning chime deactivated or gone?
Yesterday, I was driving mz car and noticed that although I had not buckled up (my passenger had), I did not get a seatbelt warning chime. Could it be that this annoying feature has somehow finally been deactivated?

I thought this was disabled for US cars, anyway it's simple enough to get it turned off if you want.

The European (and antipodean) cars have a nasty reminder that chimes for about 10 seconds, then a 20 second pause then it starts over again. This will happen for either passenger not wearing their belt.
This reminder is a requirement to achieve a Euro NCAP 5 star rating (which is the highest).
The test results are here

The chime can be disabled by the dealer (thank goodness), but does this mean I am only driving a four star car now???
I believe that in US the customers would not stand for being told what to do by their vehicle so the warning is disabled.

Mine chimes for a good 5 minutes and starts again if the car is put into park and then drive. The darn sensor on the passenger seat even chimes if I have a small bag in the seat. How do you turn this stuff off?

When I bought my car, I had the dealer disable the chime. All that happens now is that the warning light illuminates for about 5 seconds, but there is no noise.

I have my '03 E500 in for service. They give me a loaner to drive ('05 E320) and NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU'VE BEEN *****ING ABOUT!!!. It's an annoying warning light and "ding" sound that continues at an ever increasing pace for about two minutes - then stops. Only to resume after another minute or two. If I had this thing on my car I'd rip it out myself!
Another Toyota-like feature we don't need!
Seems like the lawyers are out to control our lives. How do you like the lawyer screen when yoou fire up your command unit? Spare me!!

What are the chances of this!
After reading all this stuff I just got in my AUDI and the chime (which has not worked in years, this is a good thing) beeped two times!
I was so happy it stopped beeping when it did years ago. I hope it does not start to work again.
My Euro MB had no chime (this was OK). My 300E had a very anoying sound, so I always put my seatbelt on before starting it. Maybe this was a good thing. My 04 e 320 only does a low beep (kind of more pleasant than anoying) about 6 times and then stops. There is also a light that will stay on in the clock. It really does not bother me at all. But I think that some people are saying that there are more anoying chimes in some cars. I by no means do I find this one bad, its not that loud.

I’ve done it a long time ago so I’m not 100% sure however, you may need to change the country setting in the Central Gateway from US to RDW (Rest Der Welt, Rest of the World). Then in the instrument cluster module you have to flip the Seat Belt Warning to inactive. I think it was in German so it would be called Gurtwarnung. Again, it’s been a long time and my memory is not perfect however I’ve done it on my W211, 203 and 230 and that noise is gone for good.
