Audio options
Hi
I own a 2007 E280 sedan. Recently I have fixed a P0015 camshaft sensor problem. Car is going well so far.
Currently I am running a portable Android Auto head unit that suction cups to the windscreen and outputs audio to the stereo via Aux cable or FM transmission. Works ok but when I try to answer an incoming phone call, audio is diverted to the phone itself, making it useless to hold an actual phone call.
Only real advantage to the Android Auto unit is Spotify and Google Maps when travelling.
I have read however that my command unit/stereo can play MP3 discs/DVDs!!! So I was thinking of going down that route, and purchase necessary equipment to enable my phone to connect to the command unit and take/make calls from there.
Q - what bits do I need to get the bluetooth connection going to my phone and use the original command unit? I could install a new Android Auto head unit but I want to keep the car as original as possible. Thanks!
EDIT: I think I need one of these to add to the adaptor below the centre glove box. Part No B67876131

Well, I did an experiment today. Burnt a MP3 DVD with over 500 tracks in the root folder. And it worked! BUT only showed 255 tracks out of the 500 there. But I think you can burn multiple folders so that you can fit less in each folder.

You don't have the ipod cable in the glove box do you? I use a 4th gen iPod touch and I load spotify on it. I have a subscription so I just need to sync it via wifi every 30 days or so and I can use my spotify playlists and use the steering wheel controls to control volume and move up and down the playlist. And yes, I have that puck in the center console and it works well for phone calls but doesn't do audio.

Hey. No ipod but I do have the AUX input in the glove box. I was using this with the Android Auto setup. BUT I discovered today that the DVD/MP3 player that is installed in the car makes the audio sound SO much better. So I'll be getting one of those pucks to take my phone calls and leave it at that.

Since you have the European COMMAND you can play MP3 DVDs yes, only CDs here in the States. As for the calls, you're spot on. That, or the older style that is bigger and easier to find, maybe cheaper too. The older ones have two different part numbers, and the newer one and the one you have in your photo only differ in size, they run the same software version.

Dear all,
Just curious, does ALL 2005 E320 (US version) has a iPod connector in the glove box, or only certain model/trim has it? Thanks!

I believe that was always a dealer installed option. At one point you could still buy the kit and install it yourself but I'm not sure if it's still available anymore.

At the time I believe it was something like $495 or $595 to install it, but you could just buy the cables and get it installed yourself, you just take the radio out and plug it into the back and run the cables to the glove compartment. But I don't think they stock the part anymore, once in a while you might see a kit turn up on eBay but I couldn't find one when I looked a while ago. At this point, you're probably better off getting an updated Comand radio that's android based and then you can just do bluetooth audio. Or just get a bluetooth adapter for the aux input in the glove compartment. Only issue with those is that the the steering wheel controls won't work on it, but that would be much cheaper than some of the other alternatives.

@cetialpha5 : Thanks so much! Do you know if I search on eBay, what's the part# would be? Also, which updated Comand radio would you recommend? Thanks again!
