2005 E-500
![Red face](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif)
I have recently placed my order for a 2005 E-500. The color that I selected was Bordeaux Red. In searching the US inventory (landed and on the water), the dealer could only locate two in that color, but without the options I wanted. In reading through hundreds of posts, I only located two E class cars in this color. Will I be ridiculed and ostracized for selecting a non-traditional Mercedes color? Your opinion is requested.
The hotest current topic is the newly designed center "arm rest". Since I can not change this I have chosen to accept it because of the quality of the balance of the car. A fair trade off in my opinion. I will report when I the car arrives in December.
This is without doubt the best source of information on MB to be found.
Waiting in San Francisco.

Ostrasized for a color? I would applaud you. While some models look better in certain colors than others (I could picture a yellow M3 or A4, but certainly not a yellow E), I like the diversity of colors that are available, giving people a choice if they so desire. I think the car will be very unique, and will be very nice.

Bordeaux Red will be fine. Living out in LA, I see a ton of MB cars everyday. Bordeaux Red is definitely not a common color so you'll have somewhat of a unique car.

Funny you should ask that, I was thinking about this subject the other day. Nearly all the MBs we see here are one of the silver shades, with a small number of the larger ones (E's and S's) in darker colours.
There is one pale lavender CLK I see around sometimes, and it looks very nice (I am not sure if I'd be brave enough though). I have seen one or two C Class Sports Coupes in red and they look very smart.
I think it will look great and stand out from the silver masses.

Ferrari Red would be over the line for a W211, but Bordeaux Red is nothing like that. It's a dark red, a maroon, a (surprise) wine red. It's elegant and entirely appropriate for a Mercedes. You won't be ostracized or criticized for choosing that color; you should be complimented for breaking from the black-dark grey-silver Mercedes lockstep.

Interior Color
I selected charcoal for the interior, as stone was too light and is similiar to my current interior. Ash did not seem right and would be a "special" order with an additional cost of $1,000.

The color is FINE. I origonally wanted to order mine in the burgundy color with the stone interior, because of its uniqueness. When I happened to see Pewter/Stone I thought it was awesome because I had never seen one before.
Get what you like. The car is awesome, I have been thrilled with mine. Don't sweat the console, we'll all get used to it... and it probably will be considered an improvement, once you see all of them coming in that way, and you're using it daily. I started the console thread just to get opinions, and you just have to realize MB can't please everybody all the time.

Someone here posted a pic of their E and it was that red.. It looked nice.
By the way I have seen one of those Lavender blue S500 with AMG wheels here and it looks really great.. It is suprising.

There is definitely a red 211 in the photo section.
Good luck with your new car.

I saw a Bordeaux Red on the road recently and it was very attractive. I think that the Charcoal interior is a wise choice especially during the rainy winters or if you go up into ski country. It may not offer as much contrast as the Ash or Stone but it will be much easier to keep clean and it looks very good with any color exterior. My wife wanted me to get a car with "color" but I opted for the Granite Grey. But you don't see many of them around either.

E-500
Someone has a red E-500 and has posted pictures in earlier threads. Good looking car. Maybe someone will remember who it is and find the old thread.
I think it was Dema but I am not sure.

If you need permission (you don't, of course), you have mine. I have Capri Blue, another less common color, and I love it. That's the point. If you like it, go for it.
By the way, for equally equipeed cars Capri Blue cars actually are .001 mph faster than any other color! This is a scientific fact because you have just seen it in writing.

Appreciate all your responses
Folks:
Thank you all very much for your responses to my color selection. I feel alot better. Now all I have to do is endure the wait until the end of December. It will be a painfull period, but worth it by all accounts.
I just heard this morning that the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports have been backed up due to some type of shortage of longshore men to unload the ships. I believe Long Beach is the port of entry for Mercedes. It is my nightmare to have the E-500 so close, but unreachable.
Hold a good thought for me.

I can't understand why people worry about what someone else may say. Buy the color that you like - its your money. Did you choose your house or wife for that matter based on the opinions of others ? Learn to make a decision by yourself. It is very liberating.

Hi Viper,
I can understand some folks asking opinions on colour because you get to hear so many conflicting opinions. (makes it even more difficult to decide)
Someone might think it practical to order MB-Tex instead of leather.
However the sensible advisor would point out the unpopularity of this material when it comes to selling the vehicle.
I might like a nice yellow E-class and again the advice would be perhaps similar to MB-Tex.
I do however totally accept your point. It is 'your' car and 'your' decision. 'You' will be driving the car and as long as 'you' like it. That is all that matters.
Now I'm off to order an E55 in a nice shade of brilliant metallic pink, with matching pink interior. (Just to make a statement about myself)

The primary reason for asking for opinions on the color was based on my inability to actually see it in person. As it is not a color that dealers normally stock, I was unable to do that prior to ordering. (Checked four dealerships eventhough I hate dealing with car salesmen - even MB) In one sense it is not especially smart to buy without seeing, but that was the only alternative.
The positive feedback has provided a degree of comfort that I did not make a gross error. It may result in a lower resale value in 7-8 years, but that is a "price" I am willing to pay for something a little out of the ordinary.
