Rear differential fluid change

What the process for changing the differential fluid? Simply drain, then fill till it starts flowing out the fill hole? Will I need a vacuum pump to refill?

What diff fluid is everyone using? Redline worked well on my japanese cars but assuming not so much with Mercedes.

The Pelican Parts website has good step-by-step instructions for maintenance on the W211

https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...uid_Change.htm

Another detailed set of instructions (no photos though)

https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/i...-change.98378/

and, of course, the commercial video

Procedure: Drain and fill until it comes out. Use any cheepo hand pump or any other way to push the fluid in. You have some room to work with. The drain/fill nuts official torque is 50NM which is really high, I never torque them that high since I use some permatex on the threads - I use 30NM. No leaks so far.

Fluid - spend your $ on whatever makes you happy or marketing your believe in. Official spec is 235.7 - https://operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com/sheet/235.7

Change interval - everyone will give different answers. General guidelines that will not start a flame war. If you live in a place with high humidity or wide temperature ranges especially sub-zero F - change it more often to remove water condensation.

Drain and fill basically... But whatever you do for the love of God crack open the fill plug first. If this will not open, and you undo the drain plug you're hosed.

Right here. This is the most overlooked thing ever. You DO NOT want to empty the diff and not be able to get the fill plug out to refill it with oil.

Exactly, also consider buying new plugs. On my Mini Cooper, I almost stripped out the plug

On my CLS55, I swapped them out straight away when I did this service.

You can probably use this as a guide as well:

Hello,

Can you please confirm if I have the correct part number for the plug screws "A0009977932" (assuming it's the same for fill/plug)?

My car is a 2015 CLS400 (Base, Non 4Matic).

Thank you
