A few issues

Hey everyone… I’ve got a few issues with my 2005 E320 that I was wondering if anyone’s got guidance on for me:

-My driver’s side headlight was just replaced, and now, despite every connector being connected, the turn signal and low beam don’t work, but the high beam does. Why might this be?

-My key, even after replacing the batteries, does not lock or unlock the car (even after putting it up the IR receiver on the door), and the little LED on the key no longer lights up. Does this just mean the key is dead?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a few distinct issues here. I am not entirely sure these W211 headlight modules need to be coded??

Get a scanner to help yourself read your car fault codes.

Check the wires for corrosion. Also check the connectors to see if the wires are connected properly. Familiar with using a multimeter? I would start checking voltage on those connectors and wires.

As for the key, you'll need to get a new key. Get it from the dealer. While it may be a bit pricey, you can make sure it is coded properly.

...Check fuse for key fob. Your fuse card should be in the drivers side dashboard slit... if not there check interweb for fuse location. If that fails you may indeed have to order a new key...Prices vary by dealership. GL

Are you sure the batteries are good? I'd play with the contacts in the keyfob. What's the voltage on the replacement batteries. Not that unusual to buy dead batteries at the store as they sit around too long.

Yeah, I tested the batteries in the key for my ML and they worked fine, so it’s not them.

he said the red LED on the FOB doesn’t come on…thats not a fuse problem. If you have the non-chrome FOB, the all black model, the buttons are probably cracked and let water ingress. Depending on Dealer anywhere from $250-$350, because you will also need a new mechanical key, the old one wont fit in the new FOB style. And the FOB must be ordered correctly whether or not you have Keyless Go.

I will say, the buttons aren’t cracked (non chrome fob) but when I took the batteries out the first time, they had weird dirt/potential corrosion on them after I got the car back from the shop that I left it at to fix some body damage… should I ask them if someone left the key outside/spilled something on it? The batteries that were in the key were BRAND NEW (maybe 2 months old) and I know they were perfect when I put them in.

did you test the batteries with a voltmeter after you saw the corrosion on them? One could have gone bad even if new.

Ive tested all the batteries I’ve had in the keys and they’ve all yielded the same results; nothing.

Wait you said KEYS, as in plural…how many remotes do you have For the 2005 E320?

are you testing the batteries with a volt meter?

I have 2 keys but one hasn’t worked properly since I bought the car. The key that I’m talking about here used to light up and unlock it, I just had to hold it up against the little grey rectangle on the driver’s door.

I am testing the batteries with a little battery tester device I have
