hi gang, just wanted to say I just received my Benz on Friday (05' E320 4Matic). Now the dealer went through about what i should know and such. I just glanced over the manual and yet, I am not able to overcome a problem I am having. In regards to the instrument cluster, at night the brightness of the speedometer, clock and tachometer is nil. Now I know that on the left hand side that there is the reset button that adjusts teh brighness of the multifunction display, but the numbers of the clock for example are not visible at night. Before heading out to the dealer in the next few days I hope that someone on here could help me out with some direction.
Again, looking forward to meeting some of you in time.
Cheers

Congrats on your new ride....
The numbers on the clock do not light up but are back lit by the dial face. By turning the rest button on your dash you will dim or brighten the lighting. Sounds as if you just need some time and just read your manual.... Keep it handy (I keep mine on my desk) as you will be refering to it for quite a while... I've had my ride since march and still refer to it.... Good luck with your car and welcome to the forum.

Does rotating the reset button affect the brightness of any interior light? In my car, rotating it seems to affect the brightness of every light and display inside the car. Specifically, it varies the illumination of the speedo, tach and clock from dim to bright. Even at dim the dials are visible - not what I would call "nil." If rotating the reset button has no effect on the illumination level of the dials, head in the direction of the dealer.
... and enjoy the ride.

...and keep the stack of manuals HANDY! My car is 11 months old & my manuals are still on the table next to my recliner!

Hi Anthony, and welcome to the board! This is the first car I've ever had where I read the owner's manual cover to cover and still refer to it. They really made the car unnecessarily complex, I think. You can customize a zillion things, which is great but a hassle. Congratulations on your new car--you'll love it!!!
With the reset button, I am able to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel, BUT the numbers of the clock, speedometer, and the tachometer are not lit.
For example, in regards to the speedometer, the center part (displays info and all), but the numbers (example 12, 20, 40, 60 etc etc) do not show up at night. With the clock, at night only the 2 arms are lit up, but the numbers are not lit up.
ANy suggestions? I have read this manual and I can't find a thing. Looks like I'll be visiting th edealer tomorrow if I am not able to resolve the issue by tonight.
BTW, thanks for the warm welcome!
It is a great car!

This is one of the reason I love this car.. There are infinite possibilities with settings and such. Always finding a cool new feature and the car has several features that aren't advertised.Originally Posted by rickyfanmdr

I think that there is some cross talking here. I can not speak about the clock's numbers, but if your speedometer's numbers are not lit, then there is something wrong. I have not driven my car much at night yet, but I know for a fact that the spedo. numbers (as in the speed that the needle is pointing to) should be lit. Something is wrong.Originally Posted by anthonyC

I am pretty sure that my clock's numbers are lit also, but the RPM gage is lit for sure.
So, I think that there is something wrong with your dash unit. Obviously you have messed with your dimmer since you are saying that the needles are lighting, so then the numbers (on the spedo. and the RPM gages) should too.
Hope this answers your question,
