Ipod Integration coming!!

Steve Jobs annouced the following..
" . Apple is working with BMW on the next-generation adapter. Mercedes, Volvo, Scion, and Nissan will also offer iPod adapters in 2005. Alpha-Romero and Ferrari will also offer iPod integration. Mercedes will show CLK and CLS on the show floor."

This is cool, true Ipod Integration!

The current iPod integration I believe on BMW is only on the 3 series and if that is any indications, this may only work on the C class of cars.
Buy your iPod here:

I think that they have a good selection, but if you look at Costco, they have a very good price on the one they carry.

Oh!!!! That makes more sense

Thanks for the clarification. I just looked at the specs prices and the pictures. I assumed that they were US dollars. Also my error, I should have read it all in more detail.

Thanks,

Steve

They are showing the CLK and CLS on the floor supposedly at MacWorld. If the integration kit works in a CLS then it should work in an E class.

When will this be available? My E350 will be built first decade in February. Does anyone know if the interface has to be special ordered?

(1) CDI: Where do you fill up? Do you know of any diesel stations in north Scottsdale? Sure wish Costco offered diesel.
(2) 350: Generally speaking, how’s the pricing? Any option/accessory/package availability changes and/or updates to speak of?

I generally get diesel at the Pavillions and sometimes at the station near Schumachers.

I have no information on prices for the E350. I would guess that there will be an increase around 3% or $!,500. There were no changes in options that I wanted. I wonder if there will be any change in the wheels?

Apple Press Release: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/jan/11cars.html

“The iPod Integration Kit for Mercedes-Benz will debut this April in the US with the newly redesigned 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and for most other 2005 and 2006 models later this year. Mercedes-Benz is the first automaker to provide full iPod music navigation for drivers to listen to their entire iPod music collection through the Mercedes-Benz audio system, as well as select their music using artist, album or playlist with the multifunction controls on the steering wheel and the integrated multifunction display on their instrument cluster.”

So here is the unavoidable question:

Will this be something that I will be able to retrofit to my march of 2004 built W211?

You’re instructed to contact your dealer for information on compatibility with previous Mercedes-Benz models.

What they mean by "full integration", apparently, is that the MFD displays the same information as the iPod itself. The IPod solution that BMW has been offering for a few months with some models has only a limited and unhelpful display of what's in the iPod. Of course, M-B probably won't be the only company to offer the improved iPod Integration 2.0 - BMW probably will too.

I realize that this may be a truly dumb question, but going by the adage that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, here goes. Why would you want an ipod in your car? This is assuming you have AM/FM, CD player, CD changer, and Sirius Radio. I am already overwhelmed with the choices present in any one or two of the above!

If that is the case, this solution is probably not for you.

Just think about taking your entire music collection with you and not having to take a single CD. An IPOD will hold thousands of songs.

Although the new command with MP3 will hold 4GB.. (Anyone ever tried a dual layer - 8GB??).

Does anyone know if the new integration will include power for the iPod or will it have to run on it's own battery..?

"Simply dock your iPod into the specialized connection in the glovebox and you're ready to go. Your iPod stays securely attached while out of view in its glovebox port, and continually charges even as it's playing." MBUSA
