Check Engine Light

On Friday my check engine light came on on my E320. I checked the fuel cap, but that seemed to be on tight. I also did a few searches on this board and for the most part it seems to be a pretty harmless issue. I spoke with the dealer and they want me to bring it in on Monday. Is this type of service covered under the warranty, or am I going to get hit with some outragous Mercedes-Benz bill.

By the way, this will be the cars third trip to the dealer, I am becoming a regular there.

All covered under warranty.

Most common is the gas cap...once you open and close it again, it takes a few starts of the car to have the system realize that it's not leaking pressure anymore and the light will go off (happened last week with our w220. I thought it was something big but opened the gas cap and no pressure/sound came out as it usually does. Closed it and the CEL went away a few days later.)

Probably something simple.

The Ck Engine Light is an indicator light that goes on when some emissions item is out of tolerance, If there is no discernable change in vehicle performance, I have always felt completely safe to continue driving it, hoping whatever caused the "blip" would clear itself. Of course, if the vehicle performance changes so that you can see/feel it, something is WRONG.

Well the car has been turned off and on a few times since the light came on, and still nothing. I have not noticed any difference in the performance of the car so yes I am not too worried about it right now. I will fill the car up a little later on and see if maybe it goes away...

Mine came on and went off too. I took it in the dealer and they said my crank position sensor was bad. o2 sensors are usually the culprit for tripping the check engine light.

My CE light came on last night as I was driving home from the dealer after having a "C" service. The service advisor and shop foreman thought it was either a loose connection or improperly replugged sensor. It turned out to be totally unrelated to service; one of the right side O2 sensors was producing an intermittant signal. All fixed now!

Oddly enough, my light came on a few days after I picked it up from my "D" service... but it is gone as not come back on...

Oxygen Sensor

I'm curious. How many Oxygen Sensors are there on an E320 (2004) and how do they need to get replaced? Have not seen a post about how to replacement them. Thanks so much.
