If there is a visual lump, vehicle is equipped (873), and within VIN range have dealer check it.

S-B-42.15/122 DEC12 Brake disks treated with Zinc Dust Spray Paint, re-spraying friction rings (outside & inside surfaces) with zinc paint is essential in protecting from corrosion, shuddering, and squeaking: all model years; 163,164,166, 170, 171, 172, 197, 202, 203, 204, 207, 208, 209, 210, 211, 212, 215, 216, 218, 219, 220, 221, 230,231, 245, 251, 463.

LI07.08-P-055310 Engine intermittently shuts off immediately after starting but does not shut off again on a restart. When started may exhibit rough idle for a few seconds. Symptom more common on restarts after short trips and relatively short engine off periods (10-60 minutes). ECU software update (version VC12.0.1) will be available mid February.

LI72.40-P-055045 Various function failures in front door; automatic window raising not possible / power window cannot be normalized (reset) / malfunction of central locking / illumination faulty – attempt door control unit reset by unplugging connector for about 20 seconds if unsuccessful replace DCU.

new member here, first post

I bought a 2010 350 last May. Thank you so much for this post. It has helped give me justification for requesting warranty claims with my dealership. They like to assume it is nothing wrong, or something that I was doing.

I took it in yesterday because of Bluetooth issues with calls, and also the streaming audio getting spotty after a few minutes. They updated the firmware but I don't think it's the latest version. It has the updated nav bird's eye view with the clouds, but it doesn't show the fan speed or temperature when changing the climate control. I'll check the version later in the engineering menu and post up.

Also, I asked them to check the wood trim because it looked like MatOhio's picture. (I am also from Ohio, go Browns and Bucks) They checked and said they didn't see a problem, so when I picked it up today I had to show them the LI and hold their hand while we went over to my car so that I could point it out. Then the guy saw it.

I'll be checking back with them on Monday, when the manager will be back. Is the firmware referenced in this comand 0009026706-001 the latest still?

What if car's out of warranty

Great thread, can someone educate me as to how the local MB dealer uses the information in these bulletins? Is it the case that they are obliged to check your car for the issues listed, or do they wait for the owner to see a problem and complain? Is there a record of what checks have been made or work done?

I'm asking because I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2010 E550 with over 50k miles, i.e. out of warranty. The car has been serviced by MB. I will go through the car looking for the issues in the list but wondered how best to proceed if there's a problem.

BTW the missing tab on the rear fender sounds expensive, didn't see any other threads related to it, maybe it'll take more time to become evident.

thanks,

Peter

I believe when you take your car in for either normal or warranty maintenance the system/computer lets them know if a TSB is applicable from the build date or VIN.

Yes. My experience is MB is conscientious about applying technical updates.

DTB & LI bulletins are covered under warranty (initial factory, CPO, extended, etc.) pulled by tech normally only upon customer complaint. If they document a specific range (i.e.: VIN, serial #, etc.) and out of warranty request goodwill repair based on production defect from MB rep covering dealership via service manager.

Recalls & Service Campaigns are covered out of warranty - no time or mileage limitations.

Request Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI) from dealer this is a history of all warranty, maintenance, at cost repairs, etc. performed by MB for your VIN.

Problem disappears after lengthy idle period or after interrupting the power supply. Update COMAND control unit software. The software will be available with Xentry 03/2013 and Telematics DVD 03/13 (A 166 827 11 59).

LI07.08-P-055310 MAR13 - 276 engine all models, 278 in model 166 shuts off immediately after starting. Symptom is common on restarts after short trips and/or short engine off periods (10-60 minutes) – no relevant fault codes. I dunno. Maybe the issue suggests other potential failure of the heater or seat cover???? And who wants an electrical failure going on between your legs!? Not exactly the kind of lump you want there.

(Note that I resisted any comment about the dealer "pulling your seat apart" when you bought the car.)

Dealer replaced rear bumper due to this issue on my 2010.
Thanks.

LI88.20-P-052891 - 212 rear bumper sticks out in area of rear lamp. Bumper experiences thermal expansion mounting rails (fender area) cannot sufficiently hold the bumper in place. If bumper is not equipped with additional latch, it should be replaced. Note since JAN11 bumpers are equipped with additional retaining tab.

Not sure what the above means (Koning's deal?), but for clarification. My comment is reference to how often COMAND issues seem to come up and how complicated the "fixes" are. Even then the results seem to vary a lot as to success.
