Grille Painting Need Suggestions
I'm having the rear spoiler put on and license plate holes repaired etc etc this week so I'm going to have them paint the grille black while it's getting done. I'm sure it'll look amazing and I'm thinking of the same black as my car(factory paint 040). just wanted your guys thoughts on leaving the emblem part of the grille silver or not. I'm 50/50 on it. part of my thinks it would look nice and make the grille pop, another part of me wants to just go all black.
I've already replaced the hood emblem so it's getting sleeker by the day.

I think leaving the emblem silver might look a bit tacky for some reason, can't really picture it even.... Also it might make it kind of pop too much, as you'll really notice it against the star behind it more-so than when the whole grille is silver.

Do you guys know if anyone sells replacements for this emblem? there's so many great emblems for the hood but I'd love some black amg or mb emblem for the grille itself. its just got a weird curvature to it.

so your e350 "amg" has the amg engine? was made at the amg factory? costs as much as an 55 AMG? because if not I'd argue that a $49 amg emblem because the color matches better if a more worthwhile investment than a "amg appearence package" or "amg handling"
in both cases the cars aren't E55AMGs
sorry

OK, here is a related one for you guys. I am not yet an experienced "enthusiast" so a lot of this is new to me. When my new E550 arrives, I was planning on removing the star emblem and replacing it with a flat badge. I came upon one that had a simple "B" on it. My assumption was that the "B" stood for "B"enz and given that my last name starts with a "B" I thought it would be a cool replacement.
Now, after spending some time in this forum, I have discovered that the "B" is a Brabus emblem. How much of a "no no" is would that be? Hopefully it's OK because my wife likes how it looks.

if you're asking me its fine. if you're asking K-A then its a huge no no because you don't have an official brabus car.
now, I will state that I'm definitely with K-A that adding AMG and "M"(bmws) emblems, styling, and other stuff on non AMG/M cars is usually insanely tacky I happen to disagree when it comes to emblems, valve stems, & license plate frames. I feel those small accessories represent simply an appreciation for the art of those high quality sport versions of the cars and do not pretentiously try to fool those into believing you have said vehicle.

furthermore, if you like the B get it dude. doesn't really matter what anyone thinks besides you. if you're worried about other people's opinions understand that 99% of people one the street who see your car will have NO idea what AMG, Braebus, or anything means so just do what you want. its just us foolz on the forums who flame each other on this type of stuff

My AMG Package was a $5K option from the factory, and comes with all the accessories you see, I didn't add any "AMG" emblems, because that is one of a few things that aesthetically separates my car from an E55. I.e adding AMG emblems because you have an AMG body-kit, is "posing".
The AMG engraved emblems on the rims, and exhaust of mine are all from the factory too.
IMO, and if you search the Forums you'll see MANY who agree that no matter how nice a car, if it's not an AMG (or "M", etc.), and it has the badging, car enthusiasts will never see past that, and will ridicule the car away.
Aside from that, the '10 E's all have the AMG Package, so it keeps exclusivity of it down, which means putting the AMG badge will really do no convincing to anyone, that the car is an AMG.
See it how you like, in essence, I'm just trying to look out for you and your ride.

I respect those thoughts and while I don't disagree with any of them I simply chose the AMG black tree badge because I don't like the blue star. that being said maybe I'll think it over.

I understand. I think the grille-star in front of the hood star is way overkill. I dunno, I haven't seen the tree badge, I might get flamed for this, but if I was in your shoes, and the tree badge doesn't say "AMG", and I thought it looked good, I'd go for it.

Hi Bigevil! The dealeship where I purchase the car drilled three holes in the front bumper in order to install the front plate which is not actually used and required in Florida (stupid thing). How did you repaire your license plate holes?

in the past(on my BMW and Range Rover) i'd used bumper plugs (check bumperplugs.com)
this go round they did such an amazing job destroying the front bumper that I had to take it to a guy who does body work for MB and spend the money. luckily he has a little side business outside of a formal shop so it was like $500 for the full bumper repair, painted grille, spoiler installation and filling a few small dings I've already acquired. That being said its still a $500 headache that should have been avoided.

Due to the very straight panels and lines on the 212, I'd imagine door dings and the like would stick out like sore thumbs. I have a few very tiny (you can only really notice them if you reaally look and are under a florescent light) dings in my passenger door, but since the lines all kind of subtly bend, I think it helps a bit in terms of not noticing it.

Waay better. I keep saying I think any mods than can be done to "clean" the overall look of the 212 make it look much better, I'd like to see how your car would look with the pointless and not-so-well-executed side chrome pieces blacked out as well. I think it'd look good and you'd have a distinctive and unique 212 which you can point out in a crowd, without putting much $$ at all into it.
