BMW 335i, shopping for e63
Long time BMW owner making the switch....

Hey guys,
New here. Currently drive a 335i and have been considering a leftover 09 E63, but now I'm also considering a '10 E550. Was wondering if anyone can provide some thoughts on how each of the cars drives compared to the other...obviously the 550 has less power, but what about the handling?

Are there any lease specials or incentives on the E550?

Thanks for any tips and advice. Love the cars!

Best prices will be on the leftovers, of course. Actually there are huge discounts.

But the rest of your questions are subjective and will be all over the map. There have been several threads on this exact question in the AMG boards. Do a search over there.

The 550's V8 is a great motor, but it's not an AMG. Torque, power, displacement, handling, steering, is very different.

Thanks...by the way, is your car flint gray? I just test drove one in that color. Do you have any more pictures?

The handling on the new 2010 E63 is outstanding and is on par with the M5 and possibly better, I know it sounds crazy but its that good. The car has the perfect balance with steel struts up front and airmatic for the rear, its quite dynamic. I previously drove an 08 E63 and once you set the suspension to Sport 2, The car sits really tight and handles extremely well. I currently drive an E550 and find the handling to be great, best handling non AMG E class bar none. The chassis is solid and well balanced. Take the car over 55 in Sport and you will feel the awesome grip . I was driving the car on route 80 going to Jersey on a wet rainy night and car really impressed. The 550 has awsome power and unless you want that race car power that the AMG will give you, the 550 is more than adequate.Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I was curious to see on the new E63 that they went with springs on the front vs. airmatic...how does that affect the adjustability? I really like the idea of being able to throw it in comfort mode and have a really cushy ride once in awhile...so is the front non-adjustable now on the new E63? Is the new E550 airmatic on all 4 corners still? Are there any incentives being offered on new E550s do you know?

I think, the easiest way to get answer to all of your questions is just go to the nearest MB dealer and test drive those cars. 100 people won't tell you better than one simple test drive.

Ya I will, however, I find if you are well informed prior it really helps to focus you on pluses and minuses of the car, otherwise between the salesman talking, unfamiliar roads, and the sensory overload of a new car its hard to fully absorb all aspects of it. I wish I could leave the salesman out and take the car for an hour or two on roads I am familiar with...that would be a much better test drive.

The E550 has airmatic on all 4's. I do believe they have some finance incentives on the w212 except the AMG.

I guess this is the classic case of "rich man's problem"!! I too just traded out of bmw 650 for E550.

Personally found the E550 enough car and couldn't justify going from $75k to $103k for the difference. I wanted a loaded car with all the options and just felt the E550 motor was more than good enough (as it is its faster than my BMW650 conv was...although probably only 75% as good at handling curves).

Either way you cant go wrong.

Discounts on E550?

My wifes C350 lease is up and she wanted a little bigger car. She drove the E350 and said it felt sluggish, drove the E550 and it was just right.
The dealer has the right color on a loaded car coming in with a msrp of 71K
What would be a reasonable discount?
