You are absolutely correct. The problem is when people mod their cars for the wrong reasons and without all the facts.

Before one mods, one needs to consider all the ramifications and intended and unintended consequences of that mod.

Many owners in PA came back to the forums whining when their cars failed inspection.

I've also seen too many people complain when their "simple" popular mod (usually a "cold air intake, lowered suspension or a "tune") caused their dealer to refuse warranty service on a failure.

Any body shop can do it but it'll probably cost $50-75. They have to prep a booth, mix up the paint and so forth. That costs money whether they are painting a sidemarker or a hood.

You could always get a can of paint and DIY.

Local jurisprudence notwithstanding, the act of modifying your car will not automatically void your warranty. Read "Magnuson-Moss Act" on Wikipedia. In essence the only way a manufacturer can void certain parts of a warranty is if they can prove the mods have caused the purported failure. I say "parts of the warranty" since they can only void the part directly affected by your mod, not a blanket void. The onus is also on the manufacturer to prove the mod caused the failure. Just because there's a mod doesn't mean automatic void of warranty. If they cannot prove direct correlation with the mod and failure then you are protected by the act. Just FYI.
