Comfort and Sports Mode

Hey guys,

I got my new e350 over the weekend Loving it so far but I had a quick question to see if rest of you guys find this an issue...

Everytime I start up the car, it resets the mode to Comfort mode.. Is this happening to your cars? Out of the 3 other mercedes I've had in the past, it has always remembered which Mode I was in so when I start my car again, it stayed on that mode.

Thanks,

Normal, C is default mode for 212. MB reasoning, vehicle starts out more gentle and traction is improved.

Same here, the E always defaults back to "c" after start up.

Glad to hear it's not a system malfunction... sad to hear that it defaults to C mode though Something I'll get used to...

Standard, not Sport(s) mode.

The Sports mode is a misnomer given by end users. Mercedes calls it "Standard" mode in the manual.

It has been Standard at times, for the W212 MB seems to call it Sport, in the US manual as well as in the European one. I always tend to remember this wrong.

It has now changed for the 2011 model to E (Economy) better fuel effeciancy and S (Sport) more aggressive driving mode. It always defaults back to E after re-start.

Funny, soon they have tried all possible letters. Not typical for MB to confuse owners this way, usually the basics remain the same from model to model, not to mention from one MY to another within the same body style.

LOL, M-B has been everywhere with that "Non Sport" Button, it was "W"inter on my W220, then "C"omfort, now "E"conomy.

Economy is a better marketing angle on the current state of Economical values > Everything with cars, but I like "Comfort", as it sounds more Luxurious, and a nice contrast to Sports obvious alluding to.

Also C comfort gave the false impression on the E350 that you could adjust the suspension from soft to more rigid. Just a little smoke and mirrors.

Years ago it was W or S for Winter Summer. Guess they can't figure out what to use.

That's true, people always think that. Kind of gave M-B more "Tech" credit than they even deserved on some cars, as people assumed that was the case.

"Winter" was the worst one of all (the "S" at the time stood for Summer.... Interesting to see how M-B's marketing has changed over the years).i

Anyone find a workaround or if this can be changed, I have an 07' and 11' S550 and in my 11' the "e" mode the car starts in 2nd gear. Same as everyone resorts back at start-up. Very anoying if you ask me, my dealer also stated that merc had to make it default to the "e" setting for gas milaeage reasons. It's kind of like the old lame nav screens that you had to hit accept before using. I've never once wanted to drive starting out in 2nd gear.

Ohhh man, this would be the ultimate work around. C sucks. This and the hold to adjust memory seats would be sweet.

I really notice 0 MPG improvement in C/E mode. Give us the damn choice M-B! Too many babysitters in this car.

I thought it was just me. I flip between the two and have no idea what the difference is - I don't notice anything happening.

Because you drive like "grandma."
You car will drive the same regardless of mode if you drive that way, if you drive a little more aggressive then you will notice that the car is more receptive to aggressive driving habits in sport mode.

Or maybe she drives like Mario! (Andretti, not the guy in the video games.) You can get the car to be all hyperactive and hold onto gears in C mode too if you are aggressive enough with it. I think you are correct that the car more quickly becomes more receptive with S, but I think you can get either result (nothing or aggressiveness) in either mode.

Dammit! How'd you guess?

Unfortunately, there are few options for driving like a bat out of hell here in Dallas to test things out. Going on a road trip in a few weeks though. I'll try it out then.

I believe there is difference between C and S mode, to me, the S mode seems quicker off the line and the throttle more sensitive than in C mode... as far as gas mileage goes, who cares, didn't buy this car for the fuel economy
